Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: news.mn
The regular session of the State Great Khural was held last Friday, but due to the insufficient attendance of ministers, the session was postponed to next week. Specifically, the Speaker of the State Great Khural, D. Amarbayasgalan, noted that the low attendance of ministers makes it difficult for members to ask questions and receive answers. Some ministers are on foreign assignments, while others are absent without notice, resulting in unsatisfactory responses to members. Therefore, the session will be continued on Monday. The session tomorrow will continue discussing Mongolia’s five-year development plan for 2021-2025 and the 2024 performance report of the Government of Mongolia’s 2024-2028 action program. During the discussion of this report, Mongolia’s Auditor General, D. Zagjjav, in accordance with Article 6.3.1 of the State Audit Law, based on the fifth resolution of the Parliamentary Budget Standing Committee of 2024, conducted an audit following both international and national standards and submitted the audit report to the State Great Khural and the Government. Within the scope of the “Vision 2050,” the long-term development policy document of Mongolia, the ninth goal is set by the 2020 Resolution No. 23 of the State Great Khural, focusing on national unity values, human development, quality of life and the middle class, economy, governance, green development, peaceful and secure society, regional development, and development of Ulaanbaatar and surrounding cities. It includes 47 targets and 243 packages of measures to be implemented. The second annex approved 150 project measures under the nine goals included in the 2021-2025 investment program of Mongolia, with 98 projects requiring feasibility studies and 88 projects needing funding sources to be resolved. The main directions for Mongolia’s development and the investment program have been developed according to the Development Policy Planning and Management Law Article 6.7.1, which specifies the requirements for the five-year development plan of Mongolia, but these requirements have not been fully met.
The Government and Parliament Members to Work in Regions from April
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: gogo.mn
During the plenary session of the Parliament, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, L. Oyun-Erdene, presented the main directions for Mongolia's development from 2021 to 2025, the 2024 performance report of the government's operational program for 2024-2028, and the performance report of Mongolia's 2024 development plan. During this session, Members of Parliament raised issues concerning the social and economic challenges of the country and their respective districts to the Prime Minister and relevant ministers, who then responded. In response to the questions raised by the members, the Prime Minister introduced how he plans to work towards supporting regional development. L. Oyun-Erdene remarked that the elections for the Parliament were held using regional districts. Last year, the government focused and invested in issues related to the capital city. In line with the spring session of the Parliament, before next year's state budget discussions begin, a schedule has been arranged for government members to work in each region alongside the Members of Parliament elected from those regions. Members of local councils and Parliament elected from the regions will conduct discussions together and identify issues that need resolution. Government members will then step in to work on prioritizing these issues and addressing them through governmental channels. It is crucial to focus on enabling regions to develop independently economically, he stated.
The Extraordinary IV Congress of the SHINEE Party Decides to Merge with the Democratic Party
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: isee.mn
The Extraordinary IV Congress of the SHINEE party convened today, where it was decided by a 99.3% vote of 1089 delegates to merge with the Democratic Party. At the congress, the General Secretary of the Democratic Party, N. Ganibal, participated and officially presented the decision of the Democratic Party's Political Council to collaborate with the SHINEE party in the cause of restoring democracy in Mongolia. He remarked: "We express deep gratitude on behalf of the Democratic Party to all the members and supporters of the SHINEE party, who have remained steadfast and loyal to their cause. Your struggle, values, and ideology are not only for the SHINEE party but are essential for the values and ideology of Mongolian democracy. The Democratic Party is the stronghold of the democratic revolution, and the SHINEE party is the stronghold of the struggle for justice. Gantulga, emphasized, "We have decided to merge as our values and goals align with the ideology of the Democratic Party. This unification will be an important impetus for the creation of a more powerful and responsible political force." Furthermore, founding member of the SHINEE party and former party leader and MP J. Mortgage Wait Time Extended to 48 Months
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: news.mn
The Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Protection, L. Enkh-Amgalan, provided information regarding the conditions for issuing mortgage loans. He mentioned that a Wealth Fund and National Housing Committee chaired by the Prime Minister has been established. L. Enkh-Amgalan is serving as the deputy chair of the National Committee. The secretary is the Minister of Urban Development, Construction, Housing, and Urbanization, J. Batsuuri, and the Secretary-General is City Mayor H. Nyambaatar. They are implementing a program involving the Bank of Mongolia and the Ministry of Finance. The main financier is the Wealth Fund, which is part of the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Protection. Therefore, they propose to allocate the 400-500 million MNT coming to the fund each year to the targeted group. Previously, the reach of the mortgage loan was about 400-500 billion MNT, but now they aim to add another 500 billion, reaching a total of one trillion MNT. As a result, the queue of citizens wishing to apply for this loan has increased. Where people used to wait 24-36 months in line, they now have to wait up to 48 months. A total of 1.2 billion MNT is allocated for mortgage loans, which are being studied to be provided to target groups, mainly those purchasing housing for the first time, as highlighted by Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan. "ADJUSTING MORTGAGE LOAN INTEREST BY HOUSING AREA HAS BEEN RECOMMENDED" According to G. Chinsanaa, a specialist from the Department of Housing under the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, the 483rd Government resolution declared a specific year as the year of supporting regional development, therefore focusing on housing citizens by implementing five packages: 1. My First Home
2. My Rental Apartment
3. My Own Home
4. My Choice in the Region
5. My Choice of Civil Service
In accordance with this, it is recommended that the scale of affordable loans for housing be expanded to ensure middle-income citizens can be housed. Thus, the housing loan finance, based on area and annual interest, is recommended to be set at 6% for areas up to 60 square meters, and 8% for those from 61 to 80 square meters. The President of the Bank of Mongolia, B. Lkhagvasuren, was advised to amend the corresponding policy. It is not the case that subsidized mortgage loans are provided only for areas up to 50 square meters. Moreover, it has been discussed to adjust state subsidized loan products based on various income conditions of citizens, such as 10% for up to 100 square meters and 4% for 40 square meters. "DECISION TO DIRECT MORTGAGE LOANS TOWARD TARGET GROUPS NOT YET FORMALIZED" Discussion on increasing access to low-interest housing loans took place earlier by the relevant authorities. Specifically, Minister L. Enkh-Amgalan held discussions with representatives of relevant agencies on the implementation of the housing and subsidized mortgage loan program, as well as the issues of redevelopment in ger districts. Topics discussed included improving the program for subsidized housing loans, increasing availability, prioritizing mortgage loans for target groups, defining regions and directions, supporting the secondary market for mortgage-backed securities, and collaborating with construction companies to support housing supply. It was also discussed how to increase the provision of loans for personal housing standards and personal housing with concessional financing, as well as collaboration with international development agencies to undertake projects, receive technical and methodological advice. When asked about the formalization and decision-making of these suggestions, it was reported that no decisions have been made yet and that suggestions are still under review.
Minimum Wage to Increase from April 1st
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: news.mn
From next Tuesday, the minimum wage will be revised. The minimum wage has been increased annually since 1995. For instance, in 1995, the minimum wage was 9,600 MNT. Since then, it has been steadily increased, reaching 140,000 MNT in 2011. It has since been increased eight times, growing 5.6 times to the current minimum wage of 660,000 MNT. From April 1, the minimum wage is set to be 4,715 MNT per hour, or 792,000 MNT per month. With the revised minimum wage, an individual who paid a social insurance contribution of 89,100 MNT from 660,000 MNT will pay 106,320 MNT from 792,000 MNT. In other words, the minimum wage is increasing by 20%, leading to an increase in social insurance contributions as well. Moreover, sectors such as mining, construction, road transport, etc., are allowed to set their minimum wages openly according to their sectoral agreements. The following factors are considered when determining the minimum wage: - The minimum standard of living for the population
- Labor productivity
- The proper ratio of average wages
- The minimum full pension amount provided by the social insurance fund
- Economic growth and employment levels
- Inflation
What Do We Know About the Li Auto Brand?
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: ikon.mn
About the Li Auto Brand: Li Auto was originally founded under the name "Car and Home," focusing on developing low-speed electric vehicles. In 2019, it rebranded as Leading Ideal Inc., and was officially registered as Li Auto Inc. in 2020. Li Auto has established itself as a leader in China's luxury electric vehicle market, expanding its reach beyond China into the Central Asian and Russian markets. In 2019, they introduced their first model, the Li One, and began production in 2020. The company went public on Nasdaq in 2020 under the ticker "LI," raising $1.1 billion—a remarkable achievement. In 2021, Li Auto opened their second factory in the Shunyi district of Beijing. In 2022, they launched impressive models like the L9 and L8 while discontinuing the Li One model. The company introduced the all-electric MPV named Li Mega in 2024, which is causing quite a stir. Key Models:
- L6 (2024) – Mid-size SUV, (EREV)
- L7 (2023) – Mid-size SUV, (EREV)
- L8 (2022) – Large SUV, (EREV)
- L9 (2022) – Large SUV, (EREV)
- Mega (2024) – Large MPV, BEV
- i8 (planned) – Large SUV, BEV
Why is Li Auto Special? Although established only a few years ago, Li Auto has experienced a rapid rise in reputation within both the Chinese and international markets. The brand has achieved significant success quickly, particularly in the electric vehicle segment by employing a unique strategy. Their key strategy focuses on EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) technology. While BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) refers to purely electric vehicles, EREVs use a gasoline generator to extend the range when the battery runs low, eliminating the limitations of purely electric cars. Their Li One model, released in 2019, gained substantial prestige and led sales in China's domestic market. After that, starting from 2022, they launched the impressive sequence of models Li6, Li7, Li8, and Li9. In 2020, Li Auto’s successful listing on the NASDAQ enabled them to raise $1.1 billion, allowing them to amplify production, release more models, and boost sales. In 2023, Li Auto turned profitable for the first time – a rarity for Chinese electric vehicle companies. Thanks to its reputation, quality, and branding, Li Auto sold 52,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2023, a number that traditional Japanese car manufacturers would envy. The brand achieved a 65% growth rate. Footnote: About Electric Vehicles with Two Modes: PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) generally has two operation modes:
1. Classic PHEV (Hybrid Mode + EV Mode)
- The gasoline engine is directly involved in powering the wheels. Examples are Toyota RAV4 Prime and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
2. EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle)
- The gasoline engine acts solely as a generator. Notable examples include Li Auto models, the BMW i3 REx, Nissan e-Power, and Chevrolet Volt. Li Auto's models like the Li L7, L8, and L9 belong to this EREV category, where the engine does not supply power directly to the wheels but instead charges the battery. This electric-dominated approach provides an EV-like driving feel while conserving fuel. Notably, EREV vehicles are granted "green license plates" in our country, affirming their recognition as electric vehicles globally. Li Auto falls under the Premium category. China's market is shifting rapidly towards luxury consumption from cheap and middle-tier use, bringing forth many car brands, with Li Auto shining the brightest. Their goal of producing top-tier vehicles has been met with success. In 2023, the brand saw an outstanding growth rate of 182.3%. Li Auto aspires to provide each family with a comfortable, reliable mode of transportation. Li Auto uses luxurious, high-quality materials and embraces cutting-edge digital technologies, making their vehicles truly remarkable. Family and Moving Happiness: Beyond just automobiles, Li Auto prioritizes family needs as the first Chinese automaker. Their "vehicle electrification and digitalization strategy" aims to enhance car comfort, ease of use, and ultimately bring "happiness" to families. Li Auto heavily invests in the development of intelligent cabins and autonomous driving. Li Auto in 2025: Financial Status:
- Market valuation: $27.45 billion
- 2024 Q4 results: Exceeded expectations, showing an operating profit of 3.7 billion yuan.
- Financial strength: Operating margin of 20.5%, with more cash than debt.
2025 Q1 forecast:
- Planned delivery: 88,000-93,000 vehicles.
Strategy and Market:
- New models: Planning two new BEV models for 2025.
- Competition includes brands like NIO, XPeng, and Tesla.
- Strengths: Strong financial position, leading in the EREV market, and advanced autonomous driving technology.
- Challenges: Transitioning to BEVs may be challenging, with fewer BEV models than expected.
Summing up Li Auto: Li Auto models cut a striking figure on any street, marked by their elongated body designs and exquisitely crafted lighting. They move powerfully yet silently, exuding a sense of luxury often displayed in dark grey and silver tones. The brand crafts its brand image with dynamic features like a wide full-face LED light on the hood, a spacious cabin, large windows, a unique front bumper, and big tires with prominent hubs. From both the front and rear, Li Auto vehicles are readily recognizable with their distinctive design. Parked or in motion, they stand as a testament to modern powerful machines. Li Auto in Mongolia: Brands with high ambitions like Li Auto don’t often easily give away distribution rights. However, individual imports brought Li Auto models to Mongolia a few years ago. EMC obtained the official rights after persistent efforts. Li Auto Mongolia applies the EMC Electric Motors Corporation LLC approach, dedicated to importing advanced technology vehicles and devices. Today’s advancement sees vehicles covering much more than transportation—they include features like autonomous driving, comfort, design, health features, family-oriented spaces, and safety enhanced by artificial intelligence. Li Auto stands ambitious at the helm of these innovations, cooperating with many advanced Chinese companies, ensuring robust relations and future growth. Li Auto's "Direct Sales Network" policy builds a powerful sales network worldwide, resulting in an official dealer in Mongolia. With 475 dealers and 355 service points across China, the scale of Li Auto's operations is clear, and international expansion continues vigorously. EMC LLC: As an official distributor, EMC provides long-term guarantees for Li models, ensures reliable service, supplies spare parts, updates software promptly, and responds to recalls. An exciting news is that all Li Auto models are available for sale in Mongolia. We offer Japanese and German SUV enthusiasts the opportunity to experience cutting-edge, luxurious SUVs. By selling all their cars, EMC offers:
- A 5-year or 100,000km warranty for vehicles
- An 8-year or 160,000km warranty on batteries
In celebration of the official introduction of the Li Auto brand to the Mongolian market, a limited number of orders are being taken until April 11, 2025, with exclusive prices available only once. This proposal was discussed and approved by a majority at the Khovd aimag Citizens' Representatives Khural.
H. Nyambaatar: We will Accelerate the Work of Dismantling Kiosks and Garages, Opening Entrances and Exits, and Building Pedestrian Paths
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: gogo.mn
The capital city has declared the year 2025 as the 'Year of Construction.' In this context, each district will improve pedestrian paths and public spaces using their own resources. The construction work of building fences and barriers, freeing land, opening entrances and exits, and establishing pedestrian paths has started from the Sukhbaatar district. In the 8th khoroo (district) of Sukhbaatar, a densely populated area with many state and private universities, secondary schools, and government organizations, pedestrian entrances and exits, and parking issues have been long-standing problems. Yesterday, the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, H. Nyambaatar, Member of Parliament and General Affairs Director N. Uchral, Sukhbaatar District Governor M. Altangerel, and other relevant officials worked on opening entrances and exits, and improving pedestrian paths in this district. During this time, Mayor H. Nyambaatar stated, "With the increase in building construction in Ulaanbaatar in recent years, it has become impossible for citizens to walk. Also, the availability of parking is insufficient. Due to the lack of parking spaces, people park their cars on pedestrian paths, entrances, and the first lane. This is one of the causes of congestion, and the city has become oriented towards automobiles. Therefore, we will solve this issue. As the warm season is coming, we will accelerate the work of freeing public spaces fenced off for car parking, dismantling kiosks and garages. We will also develop a feasibility study for building parking lots in 90 locations in the city with foreign franchise small businesses," he said. Additionally, the pedestrian paths of Ikh and Baga Toiruu, Peace Avenue, Naadam Street, and Olympic Street will be renovated this year. The tender for selecting the contractor for this work has been announced, but companies are not participating, warned the mayor.

Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: montsame.mn
The Labor and Welfare Service Agency of the province introduced the information about the projects and programs to be implemented in 2025 to citizens and businesses. Preparations are underway to implement 26 projects and activities within the framework of five objectives this year. The Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Protection declared 2025 as the "Year of Supporting Employment of Persons with Disabilities." In addition, following the amendments to the Senior Citizens' Law, more projects supporting the employment of the elderly and people with disabilities will be announced. During the open day, an exhibition of products from citizens who received financial support via the projects and programs of the Labor and Welfare Service Agency, along with a presentation and registration for jobs of service employees at the Oyu Tolgoi project by Uniservice Solution LLC, were organized. "We aim to make employment support activities accessible and convenient for citizens. People don't need to come with fancy projects written by someone else but can simply submit a brief and clear outline of their own activities, even if it's written on a piece of notebook paper. We will research and visit them on-site to try to include them in financial support," said P. Punsalma, head of the Labor and Welfare Service Agency.
Citizens and Organizations, Join the Grand Cleaning Campaign!
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: news.mn
To prevent spring dust and dirt, the city's Mayor's Office traditionally organizes the annual spring cleaning campaign. However, even if the city's administration does not issue a call, it is important for the city's residents and enterprises to be responsible and conscientious on their own. In short, although the capital promotes monthly public cleanings to nurture and enhance the city, cultural changes will not occur in busy areas until people's attitudes change. This seems to hold some truth. Although the city advocates for residents to be civilized and live in a garbage-free Ulaanbaatar by placing messages on advertising billboards, these efforts have not achieved success. According to the Violations Law, there are fines for disposing of phlegm, saliva, or even cigarette butts on public roads and areas. Unfortunately, this provision seems to exist only on paper. As a result, public areas, street corners, and around kiosks remain littered with spit and debris. Additionally, trash carelessly tossed around apartment complexes and street corners continues to be a headache for city residents. The solution to the issue fundamentally lies in the awareness of the citizens. It is more important for individuals to start being civilized themselves rather than relying solely on organized clean-up events by public servants and private sectors. Ultimately, waste and garbage pollute human health, air, soil, and the environment, endangering people, and their descendants. Therefore, citizens and enterprises should join in the grand public cleaning, enhance their capital, and set an example instead of merely advocating for clean streets and public areas.

U.Otgonbayar: We Should Temporarily Ban the Import of About 500 Horses Annually
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: gogo.mn
During the plenary session of the State Great Khural (Parliament of Mongolia), Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene presented the main directions for Mongolia's development from 2021 to 2025, the government's performance report for 2024 as part of its 2024-2028 action program, and the performance report of Mongolia's development plan for 2024. During this event, members of parliament raised issues and sought answers from the Prime Minister and relevant ministers regarding the socio-economic and local concerns facing the country. Member of Parliament U. Otgonbayar stated, “For the past 5-6 years, about 500 horses have been imported annually. Can we impose a temporary ban on the import of horses? When working in my district, herders raise this issue significantly. After the 500 horses are imported each year and bred, how many do they become? Is there specific data regarding this?” As the Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry was not present in the session hall, the Chairman asked if the Finance Minister could respond to this question. Finance Minister B. Javkhlan replied, "Minister Tuvdendorj is closer to horses." However, as the responsible sector's minister was absent, the question posed by Member of Parliament U. Otgonbayar remained unanswered.

According to the risk assessment for forest and steppe fires, the green zone of the capital city is reported by the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring to be at "very high" and "high" risk levels. In connection with the fire risk, an Order No. A/373 titled “On Certain Measures to Prevent Forest and Steppe Fires” has been issued by the city mayor. The order prohibits activities such as collecting forest products, travelling, hiking, organizing graduation event activities, and creating open fires in the green zones of the capital from March 28 to June 10, and from September 20 to November 10, 2025. Since the beginning of the year, 32 calls about grassland fires caused by the carelessness of citizens have been recorded in the capital. Due to the dry season starting in the coming days and the high fire risk, it is recommended that everyone stays alert and cautious when travelling through dry areas. The laws cover crimes and violations against the environment as follows: Criminal Law: Chapter Twenty-Four: Crimes Against the Environment Article 24.7: Causing Forest and Steppe Fires 1. 3. If the crime causes:
- serious harm to human health or loss of life; or
- large-scale damage, a prison sentence of five to twelve years will be imposed.
Breaches of the Environmental Protection regulations are also subject to penalties: Violation Law: Chapter Seven: Breaches of Regulations for Protecting the Environment, Animals, and Plants Article 7.9: Violation of the Forestry Law

Which Team Will Win the 2024-25 NBA Championship?
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: news.mn
The long NBA season is nearing its end. Compared to the start of the season, now is the moment to identify the strong teams with the quality and ability to compete for the championship. The best way to analyze and compare the changing prospects of teams is to look at the odds on "1xBet Mongolia." PAST AND PRESENT Before the season started, the Boston Celtics were the main favorites to win the championship. As of last October, their odds to defend the title were 4.0. Their main competitors had slightly different odds, but they were listed behind Boston. - Oklahoma City Thunder– 8.5 - Philadelphia 76ers– 9.0 - Denver Nuggets– 9.5 - New York Knicks– 10.0 - Minnesota Timberwolves– 11.0 - Dallas Mavericks– 11.0 As of today, every NBA team has completed over 70 games, and there have been significant changes in the championship race. Philadelphia, Minnesota, and Dallas did not meet the expectations set at the beginning of the season. Now, the main favorites for the championship are the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Boston Celtics. According to "1xBet Mongolia," Oklahoma's odds to win the championship are 2.82, and Boston's odds are 3.08. HISTORY AGAINST BOSTON CELTICS The Boston Celtics, the team with the most championships in NBA history, have managed to keep their championship lineup intact. Their top six players, Al Horford, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porziņģis, have excellent chemistry on the court. However, recent trends have not favored Boston. Specifically, since 2019, no team has successfully defended their championship title. CANADIAN PLAYER LEADS OKLAHOMA TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a prime example that Canada isn't just about producing hockey players. This season, he is averaging 32.8 points, making him one of the best scorers in the NBA. He also averages 1.8 steals and plays a crucial role on defense. The Oklahoma City Thunder has the highest winning percentage (83.1%) among the 30 teams in the league and is leading the Western Conference. Thanks to Shai and his teammates' outstanding performance, the Thunder's chances of winning the championship have tripled. LOS ANGELES LAKERS: THE SHOW IS JUST BEGINNING! There is no competition without a dark horse and bets. Since Luka Dončić arrived in Los Angeles, the Lakers have transformed from a mediocre team into one of the main contenders for the championship. Two months ago, the Lakers' odds to win the championship were 15.0, but today they have improved to 8.6. If the Slovenian star can work well with LeBron James, there might be no stopping this moving train. Watch the final decisive games of the NBA season with "1xBet Mongolia."

Take a stroll through painter B. Batjing's “Hidden Shape” exhibition
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: isee.mn
An exhibition of artworks by painter Boldbaatar Batjing, titled “Hidden Shape,” is now available to the public at the Khaan Gallery. He is an experienced artist who has held approximately 20 solo and joint exhibitions not only in his home country but also in the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, and other countries. This exhibition is special because it features about 20 works that stand out for their research-based, uniquely expressive, and boldly experimental techniques. Although B. Batjing's art is abstract, it also has aspects of solid shapes. These solid forms represent the general composition of the plane, and the play of tones and solid placements create harmony that highlights the center of the composition. Moreover, his art expresses itself through the play of colors, relying on the artist's accumulated sensitivity during the painting process. The flow of paint and the strokes determine independently when a piece begins and ends, giving it an expressionist quality. This is where the essence of life can be found, allowing each viewer the freedom to enjoy it according to their taste. The themes of the artist's work derive inspiration from the lines of surrounding urban environments and the interplay of light and shadow in nature, capturing shapes, colors, and emotions and expressing them through unique, non-repeating techniques. The "Hidden Shape" exhibition is open to the public on weekdays from 9 AM to 6 PM until April 4, 2025.
B. Maral: I Find Meaning in Life Through Ballet, So Even If I Struggle, I Know I Can't Quit
Published: 2025-03-30 | Translated from: unuudur.mn
Interview with B. Maral, a lead ballerina at the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. She has brought to life both supporting and main roles in world-renowned and Mongolian classic art pieces such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s "The Nutcracker" and "Swan Lake," Adolphe Adam’s "Giselle," Ferdinand Hérold's "La Fille mal gardée," and J. Chuluun’s "Uran Khas." B. Maral has twice won second place in the Mongolian ballet competition named after State Honored Artist D. Altankhuyag. She was also awarded the first prize at the International Ballet Competition held in the city of Ulan-Ude, Russia, as well as at the contest "Russia-Japan-Euroasia." - The "Nomadic Ballet" production is set to present its "Grandeur" gala performance to the public tomorrow. Is the performance ready? - This year marks the ninth anniversary of the "Nomadic Ballet" production. Within this framework, we are ready to present our gala concert to the audience. This performance is special as it features the best of our work from the past nine years. Our choreographers will also present their new creations to the viewers. We are prepared to welcome our audience. We showcased the "Grandeur" gala performance previously in 2017, and it was through participating in this performance that I became a member of the production. - I hear that you attended dance classes at the Children's Palace when you were young. Did this influence your becoming a ballerina? - I was very fond of dancing as a child. I would move gracefully to the rhythm whenever music played. Noticing this, my mother and sister enrolled me in the dance circle at the Children’s Palace under teacher Khulan when I was seven. At that time, my teacher mentioned that the Music and Dance College was accepting enrollment for their dance department and recommended that I try. I spoke to my family about it and took the entrance exam. There were two departments, folk and classical dance, and I chose the classical dance department as my age was not suitable for the folk dance program. That's how I stepped into the world of ballet. I studied for six years under the guidance of People’s Artist of Mongolia, N. Enkhtuya, and graduated as a ballet dancer in 2017, subsequently joining the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in the spring. Initially, I worked as a contracted artist, became permanent in 2018, and by 2020, I became a lead ballerina. - Was it difficult to transition from the club to a professional school? - Transitioning from the Children’s Palace to a professional school was quite different from what I had imagined. I thought that from the first day, I would start learning dances and become a ballerina. However, the reality was different from my expectations. At the Children’s Palace, we did exercises and warm-ups but almost started learning dances right away, whereas at the Music and Dance College, the very first class was groundwork exercises. We focused a lot on stretching the toes and hand positions. It was continuous exercises and practice, with little time to play. As a little child, it initially seemed boring to me. But now, I love my profession; being busy with practice makes me very happy. - After joining a professional art institution, was your first performance Adam's "Giselle"? - Shortly after joining the theatre, I participated in the ensemble of spirits in the second act of Adam's "Giselle." I am always grateful that I started my journey with such an amazing piece of art. It was very difficult at first, my legs and arms were trembling, and my heart was racing. - Being an artist, particularly a ballet dancer, is said to be very challenging. How do you motivate yourself when you're discouraged? - There are many moments of discouragement, especially when starting ballet training. Moving from attending a club to a professional class, the movements become more challenging, and the workload increases. When practice intensifies on perfecting movement execution and balancing on pointe, it naturally feels hard. But thanks to the wonderful teachers, I am grateful that I didn't give up. I like to say that ballet is an art of aesthetic self-challenge. At the very least, it requires you to keep your weight in check by forgoing sweets in order to maintain light feet, and to diligently practice, among other demands. To become a top dancer, you even compete with yourself. During practice, there are times when your feet blister or get injured. If there's a performance at that time, there is no other option but to grit your teeth and endure. You can't skip a performance because of a blistered foot. However, I know I can't quit because I love my profession and derive meaning in life from it. - I heard that when you were young, you dreamed of starring in "Swan Lake" and last year, you brought one of the 32 swans to life? - It felt like a dream, an absolutely wonderful experience. "Swan Lake" is the pinnacle of classic works. Creating the roles of the black and white swan in this piece is truly amazing and a responsible task. For the first time in Mongolia, to present "Swan Lake" with 32 swans and to portray Odette and Odile has become an unforgettable memory for me. I consider myself very lucky. I'm always grateful to the theatre and my teacher for trusting me and allowing me to "revive" my dream roles. - Do you have a role you love the most or regret not doing a bit more justice to? - There isn't a role I'm completely satisfied with just yet. Even though I performed, there are moments when I think, "It would have been better if I had just pushed a little harder." I believe all ballet dancers reflect on their performances afterward. - Can you share about the teacher who guided you into the world of ballet? - After entering the Music and Dance College, I became a student of the Honored Cultural Worker, teacher Enkhtuya. She cared for and taught us as if we were her own children. She was strict but kind-hearted, a person whose exterior was tough but whose heart was tender. I never forget the first time I met her. I had already missed the first lesson and was standing outside, wondering how to enter the class. When I finally went in and saw her, I thought, "Wow, this person is going to teach me." She always tried to give us everything she had and was honestly critical about what wasn't working. However, once outside the classroom, she was warm and motherly. Her care for her students was evident in her eyes. While in school, I was too intimidated to have open conversations with her. Even now, I give her an invitation to every performance, and it feels so fulfilling to receive her feedback or criticism. - How is ballet different from other types of dance? - Ballet is said to have originated in the courts, so it was an art form for the nobility from the beginning. Because of this, People’s Artist Jamiyandagva once said ballet is a celestial art. Ballet is heavenly because it always involves dancing on the toes and reaching for the sky. It also requires a great deal of patience and perseverance. Although it looks graceful on stage, behind it lies a lot of patience and hard work. It hides its trials and the concerns of everyday life behind a smile while trying to convey a sense of heavenly goodness to the audience. - Is there a dancer you look up to? - I share the same room with Honored Artist B. Saruul. I take a lot of inspiration from her practice routines and attitude towards everything. She's very systematic, and whatever she sets out to do, she makes sure to accomplish it. She's an industrious person who never procrastinates. - How do you prepare mentally and physically before going on stage? - Many things can happen in life. It’s impossible to cancel a performance because of a personal issue or family problem. The effort of many people and months of rehearsal are behind each performance. Art is a collective effort, not just ballet but all art forms. When the opening day of a performance approaches, everyone tends to get anxious. Lately, I try to stay as calm as possible and focus only on my preparations. I also have frequent conversations with myself. Furthermore, in ballet, the portrayal of the role is just as important as the movements. Paying attention to and researching how to deliver a convincing performance is my focus. - Many say our audiences haven’t fully adapted to theatre etiquette. What is your stance on this? - There are instances where a phone rings, food wrappers rustle, people enter and leave, or a child cries during a performance when quiet music is playing. This is unpleasant not just for the performers but also for fellow audience members. Therefore, I feel that our people need to learn theatre etiquette and respect one another. - What would you say to children and youth who dream of becoming ballet dancers? - Ballet training has increased lately. Many children taking such classes and workshops aim to qualify for professional schools. At the Mongolian State Conservatory, students are selected based on various criteria such as physical condition, flexibility, jumps, and audition. Hence, it is advisable to receive dance training before applying to a professional department. But be sure to thoroughly research the training centers and their instructors. A person unqualified in ballet cannot teach others. Especially with young kids, their muscles and tendons are not fully grown, so it's crucial to choose the right teacher. Starting ballet at a young age is important because it is related to flexibility and physical development. If stretches and physical conditioning are done well at a young age, it's possible to maintain them into adulthood.
