MP E. Bolormaa's Term of Office May Be Questioned Due to Receiving Donations from a Foreign Company

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: isee.mn

The first parliament formed by the results of the 2024 elections, consisting of 126 members, concluded its first autumn session last week. In the upcoming spring session, the term of office of certain members of parliament may be questioned, and they may be recalled. Member Dav. Tsogtbaatar, elected from Arkhangai, Ovorkhangai, and Bayankhongor provinces in the Khangai region, is one such member whose term could be suspended due to a finalized criminal case against him, according to some politicians and legal experts. Therefore, it is expected that this issue will be addressed in the upcoming spring session. - MP E. BOLORMAA RECEIVED DONATIONS FROM A FOREIGN-INVESTED COMPANY - In addition, the term of office of MP E. Bolormaa, who recently entered politics, may also be questioned. Information has emerged that she received donations from a foreign-invested organization while running for nomination in the "Western region," which includes Uvs, Khovd, Gobi-Altai, and Zavkhan provinces. Specifically, E. Bolormaa received a donation of 30 million MNT from "Hanbogd Exploration" LLC, a limited liability company with British and Northern Ireland investment. This is mentioned in the report by the National Audit Office. The company operates in the field of mineral exploration and is owned by foreign nationals Kuok Hui Kwong, Kuok Khoon Chen, and Kuok Khoon Ean. Article 56, section 56.1.1 of the Election Law of the Mongolian State prohibits receiving donations from foreign countries, foreign organizations, international organizations, foreign-invested organizations, state, or local self-governing bodies. Similar cases of this law being violated have occurred in the past. - E. BOLORMAA AND S. GANBAATAR'S ACTIONS ARE SIMILAR - To illustrate, during the 2017 Presidential election of Mongolia, candidate S. Ganbaatar from the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party was reported to have received 50 million won from South Korean citizen Yoo Wan-suk, which was broadcast during the election campaign. Law enforcement agencies investigated the matter back then, as it was considered a criminal act under the law that prohibits unlawfully obtaining state power. Current MP E. Bolormaa's receipt of a large donation from a foreign-invested company is considered similar to the above-mentioned action and is viewed by many as a violation of criminal law. If it is determined by legal authorities that E. Bolormaa received a large amount of donation illegally from a foreign-invested company, and if she is found guilty, her parliamentary term will become an issue. Article 19.2 of the Criminal Code /Unlawful Seizure of State Power/ section 1 states that "preventing the implementation of the authority of the state’s highest governing body by agreement and using violence, providing financial support; hindering the implementation of the authority using force will be punished with imprisonment from twelve to twenty years." Article 9 of the State Great Khural Law states that if an MP is found guilty of a crime by a legally binding court decision, the member's term will be terminated before its expiry. If criminal charges are not applicable to E. Bolormaa’s actions, she might face administrative measures under the Offences Law. Article 80, section 80.1 of the Election Law states that "if a violation of the Election Law cannot lead to criminal responsibility, accountability will be enforced under the Offences Law and the Civil Service Law." Overall, how the political circle and law enforcement authorities will address and resolve MP E. Bolormaa’s receipt of election donations from "Hanbogd Exploration" with investment from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland is an ongoing matter of public interest. In addition, companies such as "Energy Resource" LLC, "Khui Mandal Development Construction" LLC, "MF Group" JSC, "Tavan Tolgoi Power Station Water Supply" LLC, "Tavan Tolgoi Aviation" LLC, "Newcom" LLC, "Khan Altai Resource" LLC, "New Central Media" LLC, "Max Rope" LLC, "Max Center" LLC, "Arzh Capital" LLC, "Max Impex", and "Max Exim" have also contributed 30 million MNT in donations to E. Bolormaa.

The Initial Steps of America's New President

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: unuudur.mn

As soon as Donald Trump took office as the new President of the United States, he signed several executive orders and made announcements that drew global attention. The first moves he made have been met with varied reactions from different countries, ranging from caution to hope, skepticism to genuine belief, and surprise to pride. However, feelings of dissatisfaction, anxiety, and criticism prevail. Donald Trump froze financial aid to other countries for 90 days. Although it wasn't specifically clarified whether this applied to Ukraine, he had previously stated that he wasn't keen on spending significant amounts of money on Kiev. One of the executive orders he signed after his inauguration stipulated that children born to illegal immigrants would not be recognized as American citizens. This regulation would also apply to children born to women residing temporarily in the country, even legally. Following this, the attorneys general of 22 states opposed the order and filed lawsuits, arguing that neither the President nor Congress had the right to amend constitutional provisions. The United States is one of the 193 countries that helped establish the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948 and is a major financial sponsor, contributing 22% of the organization's budget. Trump initiated the process of withdrawing the US from this organization during his first term. Washington notified the UN of this in January 2021, but former President Joe Biden revoked this decision on his first day in office. Shortly after his inauguration, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the US paying more money to WHO than China. "They are stealing from us," he said. The European Commission expressed discontent with Trump's decision and warned that leaving WHO would weaken Washington's ability to combat future pandemics. Trump also signed an executive order to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement, which was signed in 2015. The US joined this agreement in 2016 under President Barack Obama. Trump had always doubted the scientific basis of global warming and made the decision to withdraw the US from the agreement by the end of 2020, but after Joe Biden took office in January the following year, he signed an order to rejoin the agreement. European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra remarked that the US withdrawing from the Paris Agreement again was an unfortunate event, noting that one of the major global economies and one of our closest allies in the fight against climate change was leaving the agreement. Trump signed another document eliminating guarantees of employment for many federal professionals under the Graphic F system. He justified this decision by saying, "We are free from the cancer of all types created by the Biden administration." The union representing 50,000 employees across 37 organizations has opposed this decision in court, arguing that it would significantly increase the number of people at risk of losing their jobs. "Regardless of which political party holds the White House, the American people were always assured that the day-to-day operations of state affairs were handled by highly skilled and loyal professionals," stated Doreen Greenwald, president of the union. Trump also stopped access to the White House Spanish-language website. Opponents viewed this as a call for immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries to leave the US. Trump had expressed intentions to take back control of the economically and nationally significant Panama Canal, considering the decision to transfer it to Panama as "foolish" after his inauguration. He accused Panamanian authorities of bringing the canal under Chinese control. Panama rejected Trump's threats and sought recourse with the UN Security Council, stressing that the canal would remain under Panamanian control and open to all countries. The global media is paying special attention to these initial steps taken by the American President. The British newspaper "The Guardian" concluded that during his first four years as President, Trump left chaos, division, and disaster in his wake, "returning for vengeance." "Bloomberg" sees Trump's return as a "warning siren" for the countries of the European Union. The British "Mirror Star" expressed doubts about Trump's ability to solve any issues. France's "Liberation" declared "The nightmare begins again" as Trump was elected President for a second term. Following his inaugural speech, Germany's "Spiegel" remarked that traditional international order, rights, and old allies no longer mattered, with Trump prioritizing only the interests of the United States. In fact, Trump began using the term "American golden age." Trump offered pardons to nearly all 1,600 individuals arrested during the January 6, 2021, unrest shortly after signing his executive orders. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized this decision as an insult to the American justice system, the heroes who defended the Capitol, Congress, and the US Constitution. Starting February 1, a 25% customs duty is expected to be placed on Mexico and Canada. Reports suggest that Trump has assembled a team with an aggressive agenda to lead his return to power, whereas he himself remains as unpredictable and unfocused as before, striving to articulate his new policy while drawing attention with statements. CNN suggests that Trump's agenda appears to be strengthening his authority by dismantling much of Biden's legacy, as inferred from the new President's initial policies, which indicate that the US no longer intends to serve as a refuge for refugees and immigrants, according to "The New York Times." On the first day of his tenure, Trump signed more executive orders than any of his predecessors, with heavy and difficult matters awaiting Americans, wrote "The Washington Post." Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel perceives the current American President's objective as intensifying the economic war against Cuba. Meanwhile, Ecuador's leader Daniel Noboa supports the recognition of drug manufacturers and suppliers as international terrorist organizations, aligning with their policy. According to "The Times," Ukraine's fate depends on Trump and Putin's relationship. Putin previously claimed that if Trump's victory hadn't been "stolen" in 2020, the crisis of that year wouldn’t have occurred. Although Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's 448-page report failed to prove Russia's interference in the 2016 US Presidential election and a conspiracy between Trump and the Kremlin, an incident involving a former Russian intelligence officer alleged that "if he were our asset, we would have always encouraged him to act hostile to others, so no one would suspect him as our man." Trump and Putin reportedly met in person five times. After the first meeting in Germany, Trump allegedly confiscated his interpreter's notes, wishing to keep the conversation confidential. Their official meeting publicly disclosed took place in Helsinki in 2018, where they talked at length with only interpreters present and no records kept. Another meeting is reportedly forthcoming. However, some members of Putin's team seem apprehensive about the leaders' meeting. Trump noted, "Putin was ready to start a special operation in Ukraine in 2022 because he didn’t respect Biden. He expresses his lack of respect openly." If Trump feels disrespected, his infamous temper might pose a greater threat than either Biden or Obama, potentially attempting to destroy us to teach a lesson, said a Russian state employee to a foreign journalist.

"Our Democratic Party is Held Hostage by the MPP"

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: news.mn

The News agency provides a roundup of this week's notable interviews. “MONGOLIA'S EXPANDING BUDGET POSES A RISK OF DECLARING DEFAULT” At the start of the year, coal prices dropped, the Chinese economy slowed down, and inflation reached nine percent. Economist D. Amgalan discusses the implications of these issues for Mongolia’s economy. - The National Statistics Office reported that inflation reached 9% due to reasons including increased government spending, salary increases, energy prices, and harsh winters. How would you describe Mongolia's economic situation since the start of the year? - Mongolia's economy remains highly dependent on the import and export of raw materials, and this will remain unchanged in 2025. The 9% inflation is prompted by several factors. The expansion of budget spending, and especially the increase in electricity and heating prices, are significantly affecting the situation, leading to further price increases. Due to the rise in energy prices, production and service costs increase, subsequently raising consumer prices. Mongolia’s economy is still largely dependent on mining. Fluctuations in international raw material prices, along with declining coal prices being supplied to China, have adverse effects on our exports. This suggests a risk of putting the trade balance into deficit, impacting consumers’ purchasing power and especially affecting low-income households. This situation indicates that we need to focus exceptionally on fiscal discipline in the medium and long term, increasing domestic production to substitute imports, and enhancing competitiveness. - In December, dividends for 1072 shares were distributed, and the anticipation is that dividends might be distributed again next month. From April 1st, salaries are expected to increase. Will these developments risk inflation and market fluctuations? - This situation certainly affects the economy. For instance, distributing dividends for 1072 shares increases consumer purchasing and market demand. Likewise, salary increases have similar stimulating effects. These demand-side increases risk fueling inflation. Such an outcome arises because the 1072 shares lack the characteristics of shares and do not involve economic relations, making them unsustainable and providing short-term price increase risks. Thus, controlling inflation through adjustments and improving supply chains is crucial. “SCREEN ADDICTION INCREASES THE RISK OF DEPRESSION BY 80%” An interview with D. Nomiun, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the National Center for Mental Health. - With the advancement of technology, children are increasingly becoming dependent on screens. Is it correct to define excessive usage of screens and phones as an addiction disorder? When is it considered excessive? - Screen or internet addiction refers to the condition where a person uses the internet or screens more than necessary—for hours, days, or months, significantly disrupting daily activities, lifestyle, and routinely ignoring responsibilities. A global average person spends around 6 hours a day on the internet. In the United States, studies show children aged 8-10 spending around 8 hours daily, while those aged 10-18 spend more than 11 hours on digital activities. Current research is ongoing to understand its impact on developing brains. - What are the main contributing factors to screen addiction? - Neglecting children, not teaching stress-relief methods, negative familial and social interactions, and lack of self-confidence are considered significant factors. No one becomes addicted overnight; it follows gradual stages. Factors lead to varying screen addiction levels in children, depending on their intensity. Biological and social factors contribute to screen addiction. The negative biological factors include inheritance (genetic basis), activity and changes in brain neurotransmitter release, and personal traits. Social factors include environments rich in devices, lack of family engagement with children, and influences from family or peers addicted to screens. “OUR DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS HELD HOSTAGE BY THE MPP” An interview with E. Bat-Uul, former mayor of Ulaanbaatar. - You have been criticized for becoming an advisor to the Head of the Capital City Administration, H. Nyambaatar. The claim is that you betrayed your Democratic party. Who proposed this advisory position to you? - I haven't heard about allegations of betrayal or defection from my party. Various opinions emerged, with many expressing concern. Even my friend D. Sosorbarm expressed dissatisfaction out of concern. These suspicions and concerns are unnecessary. This is because AN, MPP, and the HUN Party have formed a joint government, "MAHUNKHUN." I have no interest in, nor will I be involved with, this coalition government. As a former city mayor, I expressed my perspectives and sought advice and support on Ulaanbaatar’s new planning from Deputy Mayor T. Davaadalai. The Prime Minister, L. Oyun-Erdene, later made this proposal. Ulaanbaatar city is my native city and home. When the fate of my home is discussed, I can't sit still as an outsider. “CREATING DIGITAL VERSIONS OF TEXTBOOKS” An interview with P. Oyuna, director of the Unified Policy and Planning Department of the Ministry of Education, discussing efforts in the education sector. - How many teaching positions are currently vacant? Which subject teachers are in shortage? - Teacher shortage is one of the most pressing issues in the education sector. Before the school year, there was a significant shortage of teachers. This is reflected in the number of unfilled teaching positions. As of now, nationwide general education schools have a shortage of 1,319 teachers, especially in English, physics, mathematics, primary school, technology, and chemistry. Kindergarten teachers are also in demand.

Canada, Mexico, China Goods Tax Implemented

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: montsame.mn

Starting today, the U.S. government has imposed a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico, and an additional 10% on goods from China, as announced by White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt. Prior to this, it was reported that President Trump had postponed implementing the tariffs until March 1, but Leavitt clarified this as "incorrect information." Following the confirmation of the U.S. president's decision, during Friday's trading, the S&P 500 index fell by 0.5%, the Nasdaq composite index by 0.3%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average index by 0.8%. President Trump explained the imposition of tariffs on neighboring countries' goods by stating that Mexico must stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States, and Canada must halt the secret smuggling of drugs such as fentanyl into the U.S. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would take "strong and smart" retaliatory measures against the tariffs imposed by Washington, urging Canadians to be prepared for challenging times. According to Bloomberg, Canada has prepared a list to impose tariffs on $105 billion worth of U.S. goods. Additionally, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, after discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, emphasized that Canada is forced to respond with these measures. Furthermore, Mexico is preparing to take retaliatory actions, which could lead to a "devastating trade war," as reported by The Guardian.

N. Tsolmon: Implementing Heat Pumps Can Fully Replace Coal Boilers

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: unuudur.mn

We spoke with Dr. N. Tsolmon, an expert in technical sciences, about the environmental benefits and positive impacts of using heat pumps in heating systems under our country's conditions. He recently defended his doctoral thesis on "Increasing Heating Efficiency and Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Using Heat Pumps in Continental Climates." - What is the main goal and importance of research on improving heating efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions using heat pumps? I chose this topic to contribute to reducing traditional fuel and electricity usage and the negative impacts on the environment in building heating systems. Implementing heat pumps allows us to completely replace coal boilers. This means no greenhouse gases or other harmful pollutants will be produced. Overall, using heat pumps increases heating efficiency. Additionally, utilizing low-potential heat from the air, which is at temperatures of -20 to -10 degrees, can meet energy needs, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our country is located in a continental climate region, far from oceans and seas, in the central highlands of Eurasia. Therefore, it has an extreme climate with distinct four seasons. There is a significant temperature difference between air masses. The heat pump equipment can capture thermal energy from water, ground, or air nearby the building, converting it to a high temperature for heating the building, preparing hot water, or heating a pool. In general, it extracts heat from the external environment to heat the building. Heating is essential for maintaining a constant indoor air temperature regardless of external climate conditions for both private houses and service buildings. As temperature usually transfers to the direction of the lower temperature, when the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor air, the building loses heat. During such time, the heating system compensates by adding an equivalent amount of heat, maintaining the indoor air temperature constant. Therefore, by insulating buildings well and using a pump, it is possible to increase the heating system's efficiency and extend its operating time. Furthermore, up to 75% of the total thermal energy requirement during the cold season can be sourced from outside air. - What are the advantages of an air-to-water heat pump compared to other heating systems? In winter, a building's heating demand significantly increases. Meeting this demand can't be solely relied upon by pumps. However, using energy-saving, advanced technologies like pumps on relatively warm days could considerably reduce air pollution in cities and towns. Most of the private houses and service buildings are 2-3 rooms or sections. Therefore, air-to-water heat pumps are more suitable. Such buildings must have some kind of heating system, such as underfloor heating or radiators. Meanwhile, air-to-air heat pumps are more suitable for just heating one specific room, hence commonly used in yurts in Mongolia. Geothermal heat pumps have a pronounced advantage in terms of energy productivity. However, depending on the area's specifics and the building's heat load, it may require drilling several holes at an average depth of up to 120 meters. Hence, the costs are comparatively high. Households and businesses with independent heating systems using radiators or underfloor heating, not connected to centralized heating supply, usually use electric heaters. In such cases, we recommend using additional air heat pumps to save electricity. For example, in regions where heat loss is high and where temperatures cool down up to 10-12 degrees, air-to-water heat pumps can effectively work when heating with water above 50 degrees Celsius. - How does this affect environmental safety and the use of green energy? Our country consumed a total of 10,943 tons of coal in 2023, with 551.8 thousand tons used as household fuel. Districts and remote neighborhoods, residential areas with detached homes, and public buildings not connected to centralized heating supply primarily rely on low-efficiency small coal stoves for heating. Therefore, heating is addressed by burning vast amounts of refined and raw coal, which has a negative impact on air quality and greenhouse gas emissions. Hence, it is vital to broadly introduce sustainable energy solutions like heat pumps. A heat pump produces 2.5–5 kW/h of thermal energy by consuming 1 kW/h of electrical energy to heat buildings. When combined with solar power systems, they can reduce carbon emissions. Heat pumps operate using a refrigerant that boils at low temperatures, enabling them to absorb low-potential heat from natural sources, such as lakes, rivers, and ground air, by boiling the refrigerant. Common refrigerants like R134a, R410A, and R407C are being widely used. Our country has ratified a permit system for importing, selling, and using ozone-depleting and substitute substances and equipment containing them. European countries now use R290, a propane-containing refrigerant, albeit flammable; it has a three times lower potential for global warming. Therefore, not only households but also tourism and mining camps can take advantage of this technology. The limited ability of detached houses, private, or commercial buildings in urban areas to connect to centralized heating supply due to geographic location means many rely on coal-fired stoves. Currently, air-to-water heat pumps are being tested publicly in energy-saving demonstration buildings like "Nearly Zero-Energy buildings" at the MUST's Center for Building Energy Efficiency and promoted through companies like "Powertool" and "Zero Energy Building." Consequently, this approach is feasible not only for private homes but also for tourism and mining camps. In 2017, the Ministry of Energy, MUST, and universities from California and Tsinghua collaboratively tested air-to-air heat pumps successfully in two yurts and five buildings within the neighborhoods, and they continue to be in use. - How can research findings be grounded in practice? Heat pumps are advanced heating technologies, thus highly beneficial in mitigating heat loss from buildings and improving indoor air quality. Generally, to shorten the use of electric heaters and reduce costs, we must focus on minimizing heat loss. Remember, improvements in advanced solutions will be further enhanced by thoroughly insulating buildings to meet standard requirements. - Which countries predominantly use this technology? Countries with similar cold climates like Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Canada, and northern China utilize this type of heat pump widely. These countries have taken numerous steps to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. Also, they place high importance and stringent requirements for green construction and have high energy tariffs. Policies support the widespread adoption of advanced heating technologies. Furthermore, countries such as England, Finland, and Ireland have plans for 100% heat pump usage in building heating systems by 2030-2035. Specifically, the United Kingdom plans to use 600,000 pumps in new and old buildings by 2028. As such, they have defined requirements for pumps. For instance, in the EU, if an air-to-water heat pump's energy conversion coefficient is at least 2.5, it is counted as renewable energy, qualifying for financial incentives and allowances. In other words, it provides at least 2.5 kW/h of thermal energy per 1 kW/h of electricity consumed. Additionally, energy conversion coefficients categorize pumps as A+, A++, and they must meet minimum noise level requirements. - What should be primarily considered when further integrating this technology into practical use? People often ask about the advantages of heat pumps over traditional electric or coal heaters. Addressing this skepticism is urgent. Following market principles, advanced renewable energy technologies, such as heat pumps and solar power generators, are available through "green loans" from commercial banks. Yet, these technologies aren't sufficiently integrated to reduce urban area air pollution as much as needed. Therefore, a strategy and incentive mechanism are needed to effectively integrate these advanced technologies in our country's extreme climate conditions. We should leverage successful experiences like the national "100,000 Solar Gers" program, implemented with foreign development agency grants and concessional loans.

Tuvkhan's Announcement and a Year Later Horse Manure Protest Leads to Government Instability Over Spring Horse Racing

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: isee.mn

This week's Wednesday government meeting decided that from March 1 every year, local authorities will organize and supervise spring horse racing. This decision has divided public opinion and strengthened opposition to Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene. -DUE TO THE SUPREME COURT'S "BAN," SPRING HORSE RACING CANNOT BE HELD- In 2018, the Supreme Court issued a resolution banning horse racing in winter and spring nationwide. In 2019, the government passed resolution 57 prohibiting horse racing, practices, and displays from November 1 to May 1 every year. According to Article 50.2 of the Constitution, "The Supreme Court's decision is the final decision and must be followed by all courts and others. If the Supreme Court's decision contradicts the law, it itself will annul it..." However, L. Oyun-Erdene's government annulled government resolution 57 and delegated the authority to organize spring horse racing to local governments, which contradicts the Supreme Court's decision and violates the Constitution. Therefore, some citizens suspect that this is a distraction from a "coal agreement" and have expressed their opinions on social media. -TUVKHAN'S ANNOUNCEMENT, A YEAR AFTER THE HORSEMAN PROGRAM, A HORSE PROTEST OCCURS, AND THE GOVERNMENT DECIDES SPRING HORSE RACING CAN HAPPEN- Historically, a decision that cannot be fully implemented was made by Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene's government, possibly influenced by factors other than coal. Noticeably, one week ago, 300 horsemen held a protest under heightened police protection, which was planned in advance. Some citizens jokingly called it a "horse manure protest." Five days later, L. Oyun-Erdene's government decided to reinstate spring horse racing. Criticism emerged alleging that famous horse trainer Tuvkhan and ministers who declared ownership of race horses took part in the government's meeting. Tuvkhan, a year before becoming a minister, announced his initiative for a law to allow spring horse racing. Furthermore, precisely a year ago during the Lunar New Year, the Prime Minister participated in a "Mongol Tradition" program with horsemen D. Davaakhuu, E. Erdene Chuluun, S. Erdenebat, and T. Ikhbayar. These horsemen emphasized that horse racing is the only activity keeping the youth in rural areas. In short, the "horse manure protest" happened on the one-year anniversary of Tuvkhan's announcement and that program. Thus, Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene may have promised horsemen to reinstate spring horse racing during the program. Furthermore, famous horse trainer Tuvkhan's influence on this decision should not be dismissed. Also noteworthy, the Prime Minister's only brother, B. Bayarnemekh, is a well-known horse trainer with the "Honored Trainer" title and serves as deputy chairman of the "Satsan Khan's Steed" trainers' association in Khentii province. There might have been pressure from the middle ranks of the Mongolian People's Party gearing up for the 2027 Presidential election, advocating for the reinstatement of spring horse racing. However, whether the public's speculation about "using horse protests and racing to distract from signing a coal agreement" holds truth remains uncertain. -THE DECISION TO REINSTATE SPRING HORSE RACING DESTABILIZED THE GOVERNMENT- With a clearly prohibited resolution from the Supreme Court, the government's actions contradicting the Constitution are being criticized by many citizens. The decision to reinstate spring horse racing has strengthened Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene's opponents. Specifically, members of parliament elected under the ruling party such as H. Baasanjargal, A. Ariunzaya, O. Saranchuluun, and G. Luvsanjamts opposed the government decision, stating, "What a shameful decision. The Supreme Court's decision remains unchanged." Additionally, member of parliament B. Enkhbayar declared, "The government of Mongolia is colluding with coal thieves and now is completely controlled by them. Does your government have the political legitimacy to fight them?"

SUMMARY: The Requirement to Revive the Spring Horse Racing and the "Cunning" Decision of the Government

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: gogo.mn

Here is a summary of the key events from the past week. THE GOVERNMENT'S DECISION "SUPPORTING" THE DEMAND TO REVIVE THE SPRING HORSE RACING The government’s 2019 Decree No. 57 prohibited the organization of horse races, training, and competitions from November 1st to May 1st every year. However, some citizens have submitted a requirement to the government to revive the "Dunjingarav" race. In its regular meeting, the government discussed this matter and announced, "The rights to organize all sports and cultural events have been transferred to the provinces and local areas. As a result, all events such as horse racing will be independently decided and organized by the provinces and local authorities." Regarding this: K. Baasanjargal: I am deeply regretful that the government has made a decision trampling on children's rights. L. Enkh-Amgalan: The decree prohibiting horse racing from November to May becomes invalid today, whether we like it or not. Reasons to Oppose Winter and Spring Horse Racing! L. Oyun-Erdene, the head of the National Council for Children, made a decision violating children's rights. The National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia: The government has stepped back from its principle of prioritizing children. Members of the government, including the Prime Minister, own race horses. PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARE IS NOW 1000 MNT In February, the City Council decided to make changes to the fare tariff for public transportation, stating that from January 1, 2025, citizens will pay 1000 MNT for transit. This decision was delayed indefinitely, but implementation started today, February 1, 2025. According to Z. Tseveendorj, head of the Division of the Transport Administration of the Public Transport Authority, the price for public transportation services has not changed since 2014. The new fare was initiated by the City Representatives Khural and City Mayor’s Office. However, this change merely increases the price, and it means that a citizen can travel four times a day for 1000 MNT. Specifically, tapping a card for the first ride of the day will deduct 1000 MNT. Additionally, the previous 30-minute limit for transfers has been removed, and the requirement to board a different route for the next bus transfer is no longer applicable. 3-YEAR-OLD BOY DIES OF MENINGOCOCCAL INFECTION Last week, one case of meningococcal infection was registered in Nalaikh district. During a briefing on the situation by the National Center for Communicable Diseases, it was announced that a boy who contracted the disease had passed away. E. Ankhbayar, Director General of the National Center for Communicable Diseases, stated, "Last year, five suspected cases of meningococcal infection were recorded, with two children diagnosed and recovered. Yesterday, a suspected case was discovered in Bayangol district. We are awaiting laboratory results. Therefore, it is necessary for citizens to take preventive measures against the infection." HOSHORYU S. BYAMBASUREN BECOMES YOKOZUNA Ozeki Hoshoryu Sugarragchaagiin Byambasuren won the new year's first basho and was promoted to the highest rank in sumo, yokozuna. At the age of 25, S. Byambasuren fulfilled the criteria for the yokozuna rank by achieving a 12-3 record in this year's first tournament, the January Hatsu basho. Thus, he became the 74th grand champion in sumo wrestling and the 6th from Mongolia to reach this rank. The previous yokozuna, Terunofuji G. Gan-Erdene, retired during the Hatsu basho, and experts note that to prevent the sumo association from being without a yokozuna for the first time in 32 years, Hoshoryu was elevated to grand champion. Featured Articles: B. Bilegt: Since that autumn, I have always strived. YEAR OF THE SNAKE: A good year for the youth, with promotion and progress. "If you say you need to drop your child off and you'll be late for a meeting, the Japanese are very surprised." "The balance of the intestinal microenvironment has been disrupted, leading to increased cases of acute and chronic stomach and intestinal illnesses." Taiwan Dumplings: The taste of 18 pinches and 21 grams. Who would think one could eat a museum exhibit... Here is a summary of the key events from the past week.

UVURKHANGAI: Governors State that Migration is Leaving the Province Unattended

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: montsame.mn

The governors of the province's 19 soums attended a joint training over two days. During this period, directors of policy departments and agencies provided information and methodological advice, and exchanged views on the pressing issues. For instance, it was noted that the "Cooperative Development Fund" rules are not effectively reaching the ground, resulting in herders not widely participating, and the unclear procedures for selecting the "Province's Outstanding Herder" are leading to indiscriminate awards. Additionally, the increase in migration from soums to the province and cities, leaving local areas neglected, requires policy intervention. Due to the decrease in students, schools are unable to secure funding and are on the verge of bankruptcy. There are schools where first grades have about ten students, and graduating classes have 7 or 8 students. The Governor of the Province, O. Purevdorj, responded by saying, "Parents bringing their children to places with good education services cannot be blamed. This cannot be resolved administratively. Therefore, local leaders should think about how to employ good teachers, how to fill vacant positions, and how to ensure the social security of their teachers. Allocate funds from the local budget and manage effectively. We, at the provincial level, are not sitting idly and are doing everything necessary." Following the results of the 2024 local elections, about 80 percent of the 19 soum councils and governors have been renewed. Among the leaders managing soums, who are aged between 30 and 60, four are women.

Preliminary Report on Jeju Airplane Crash Released

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: itoim.mn

South Korean experts investigating the Jeju Air plane crash have submitted their preliminary report to the United Nations aviation agency, as well as to authorities in the United States, France, and Thailand. The investigation into this tragic accident, which claimed the lives of many, is ongoing. In the report, analysis was conducted on the engines and the structure of the "localizer" landing guidance system. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a UN agency, requires crash investigators to release a preliminary report within 30 days of an accident, with the final report to be made public within 12 months. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft experienced a crash landing in December, during which it overran the runway, struck a localizer installation, and resulted in all but two of the 181 passengers and crew members perishing. The report was also sent to the victims' families. The crash report notes, "Two engines were inspected and found with bird feathers and blood stains." Additionally, experts suspect that a concrete structure supporting the localizer, a system that assists aircraft navigation during approach at Muan Airport, could have contributed to the cause of the accident. INVESTIGATION: Amidst rumors of the spring race, horse trainers are preparing their horses and starting to involve jockey children in the work

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: isee.mn

A court decision in 2019 declared that spring horse races violated children's rights, leading to the government banning such races. However, in last week’s government meeting, the decision was made to resume spring horse races, transferring the organization and oversight rights to local authorities. This means that if local authorities grant permission, spring horse races can now be organized. As a result of this development, horse trainers have already started preparing their horses and involving jockey children in the work. The government’s decision last week overturned the 57th resolution from 2019, which was previously deemed unconstitutional. This decision contradicts the Supreme Court's ruling on January 15, 2018, which found the government's decree to organize the "Dunjingarav" race illegal. According to Article 50.2 of the Constitution of Mongolia, "The decision of the Supreme Court is the final decision of the court and must be followed by all courts and other entities. If a decision of the Supreme Court is contradictory to the law, the Supreme Court itself shall annul it. If the interpretation of the Supreme Court is contrary to the law, the law must be followed." Legal experts argue that the government meeting’s decision violates the Constitution. Meanwhile, following rumors of the revival of spring horse races, horse trainers located in areas like Uliastai Settlement and Khui Doloon Khudag have commenced their horse work and started employing children as jockeys. Human rights workers emphasize that organizing horse races during the spring poses health risks to children and grossly violates their right to education. Ignoring these concerns, horse trainers have already begun preparing their horses in anticipation of the spring race, engaging jockey children in horse work despite the school year beginning. In light of this, we visited Uliastai Settlement to discuss with horse trainers about the potential violation of children's rights and illegal adherence to the decision, as well as to hear from some jockey children themselves. According to the horse trainers: “If the spring horse race takes place, it would be great. We train our horses and work throughout all four seasons, but because festivals only happen in the summer, a whole year of our work goes unrecognized. If spring racing occurs, we can ensure children wear protective equipment, and setting the age limit for jockeys at 12 would suffice. We are sending our children to school as usual. The main issue concerns the organizers of the festival. They need to ensure the pathways are well prepared to minimize the risk of injuries to the children.”

Philadelphia medical aircraft crashes

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: montsame.mn

An air ambulance crashed onto a residential building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On the plane were two pilots, two doctors, a patient, and a family member of the patient, all of whom died. The "Learjet 55" aircraft disappeared from radar screens approximately 487 meters above ground 30 seconds after takeoff. According to a representative from "Jet Rescue Air Ambulance," the deceased patient was a girl living in Tijuana, Mexico, who was on her way back home with her mother after receiving treatment in the United States through a charitable program. The crash damaged several houses and cars, injuring six people. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed condolences over the incident. According to "Fox News" reporter Rich Zeoli, citing sources, oxygen tanks on board might have caused the crash. "As we understand, because it was a medical aircraft, the explosion was likely due to oxygen or fuel," said the journalist. Police reported finding an oxygen cylinder near the "McDonald's" parking lot close to the crash site. A separate collision between a civilian plane and a military helicopter occurred near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., on Thursday night. The plane had 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter had three crew members; no one survived.

L. Dugersuren: It's crucial for Mongolians to cherish their horses and use leather products made in the traditional Mongolian way

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: montsame.mn

We had a brief conversation with L. Düügersuren, a herder, poet, carver, and craftsman from Tes soum's second bagh. - When did you start crafting? - I learned the skills of craftsmanship from my grandfather when I was young. The year I entered school, I assisted my grandfather in crafting snuff bottles. I have been interested in crafting since then. Currently, I make and sell items such as knives, awls, horse bits, and stirrups from metal. I also create fast horse brushes, buckets with small handles, and bridles from willow. Additionally, I am crafting cups, knife handles, and horse scrapers from cow horns. I aspire to expand the variety of my creations to meet people's needs. - Where do you source wood for your crafts? Is it readily available? - "Uur" refers to a growth that can be found near birch trees. It's removed and treated with dye and black lacquer without harming the tree. It's somewhat difficult to find, as it's rare. I gather it myself from nature. Using "uur" requires considerable work; it can take almost a year. After finding and boiling it in water, it must be dried in a shaded place for nearly a year before it can be made into usable products. I've made items like cups and wooden snuff bottles from "uur." Last year, at the "Nomadic" festival, a young man's household items at a museum exhibited my work. When an "uur" cup is finished and oiled, it becomes durable, lasting for 70-80 years without cracking and standing up to moisture. I craft my items without using chemical substances, and due to the time taken to make them, I mainly sell them by order. - Is there a complex technology involved in making a horse bit? - The standard for making Mongolian horse bits is essentially being lost. Non-standard bits, especially from neighboring countries, are proliferating. Traditionally made bits have two parts: the "uud," or ring, and the "zajilbar," or bit. The correct side of the bit is called the "shilbe," and the incorrect side is called the "chömög." The "shilbe" should be shorter than the "chömög." The shorter "shilbe" aligns on the right side of the tongue. Followed by a detailed method, an incorrect bit can cause damage by pinching the horse's cheek or tongue. Pure steel or copper bits do not heat up much, preventing drying of the horse's mouth. Therefore, I make bits using shocks from western vehicles. Since Mongolians love their horses, it's vital to use leather products made in the traditional Mongolian way. I used to make Tesiin's black leather lasso but haven’t been able to recently. The process is very labor-intensive. To make a black leather lasso, the essential item is sheep dung. The leather is first cut, then stretched outside in the winter cold, scraped of hair, manually softened to remove fat, and buried in sheep dung. It needs to be buried and manually worked twice in sheep dung to become genuine Tes black leather. If it's prepared with stones, the leather stretches and loses its strength. Proper black leather made following technology is elastic, stretches, contracts, and is durable with little damage. I also create "arkhad" from cowhide. Besides large "arkhads" used for making airag, I also make souvenir "arkhads." - You're a poet and writer. I heard you've published a new book recently? - I enjoy writing poetry. My first book, "Melody Flowing from Contemplation," was released to readers in 2007. Since then, I have published "Wind-Decorated Home" in 2024. I created my second book in celebration of Tes soum's 100th anniversary. It includes over 160 poems, 3 essays, 1 profile essay, and 1 article. The last few pages contain images of my handcrafted items. - Do you read books? - Yes, I do. I read a lot of literature and historical books. When I was 6 years old, my father-in-law, on his way back from Ulaanbaatar, got a copy of the "Heroic Khan Harangui" epic for my uncle. During winter, my uncle would gather us kids to read to us. At 6, I memorized that epic and recited it to Adisha, the elderly neighbor, for a handful of dried grapes as a reward. That was the first prize I received for reading a book. I have loved books since then. My uncle, a man with clear handwriting, used to read "The Ocean of Fairy Tales," published in varied writing. During those times, we didn’t have TVs or mobile phones. Families would gather in the evening to shelter the livestock, then go to Uncle’s place to listen to stories and epics. Therefore, I've been friends with books from a very young age. Five Treasures Five lovely nests appointed by heavenly gods Five distinct chords of a single harmony Five living flowers blooming on the earth Five sacred rays shining from the golden sun Fivefold invitations ring in your soul Five notes of life’s melodies spring Oh, my five beloved children Oh, my five blissful treasures The significance and happiness of my life - Can you introduce your family? - My wife T. Suvsa and I have five wonderful children. Our eldest son graduated in auto repair and maintenance from Ulaangom College. My wife and four children live in Ulaangom. Our second son is studying in India at Goman Datsan, now in his 12th year, having taken monastic vows. Our third son is interested in fast horses, helping and supporting us. Our daughter graduated from a religious school in Ulaanbaatar and went to study at Ani Monastery in India this fall. Our youngest daughter is in her second year studying clothing design and art at the Teachers University. My wife processes dairy products. We do household production. - Thank you for the interview.

The Updated Electronic System for Civil Services Introduced

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: montsame.mn

The Civil Service Council organized a meeting at the General Department of Taxation to introduce the newly updated electronic system for civil services. The update enables electronic notifications of illegal appointments in civil service to be received and fully monitored nationwide. Additionally, civil servants can now view available job positions that match their skills and qualifications through the system, make selections, and take exams. L. Tsedewsuren, chairman of the Civil Service Council, introduced the system by stating, "Our organization is responsible for maintaining the unified register of civil service and officials operating in our country according to the Law on Civil Service. Previously, we used Excel to manage this information, but since 2022, we have been transitioning to an electronic format in stages. From 2024 onwards, the information that was previously only seen by the government organizations is now accessible in a dashboard format for citizens, the public, and civil servants themselves to view. Moreover, we have developed a system where civil servants can log in with their special access to check, control, and edit their information. The system for the selection and recruitment of civil servants is being developed, facilitating candidates to apply for positions that suit them. The results of civil service exams, including who passed and why someone might not have passed, are now available for the public. Previously, damages incurred by the state were recorded on paper, but now we have integrated this into the electronic system. This system allows viewing of when and which official made an illegal decision and how the court resolved it. Information about when and what payments need to be made to the state based on court decisions can be seen through the system. This development increases the accountability of government officials," he added. The primary human resource and base platform for the unified electronic system began development in 2020, but it has been further developed recently to align with changes in relevant legislation, technological advancements, and integration with other systems. By 2024, four new modules and two subsidiary system integrations have been introduced into use.

How clear is Taiwan's healthcare service? Public vs Private Hospitals

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: gogo.mn

This edition of GoGo.mn's travel column "Where to Go" is brought to you from Taiwan. Traditional medicine and modern technology are combined in Taiwan's healthcare service. Recently, there has been an increase in the trend of medical tourism, which involves traveling for both diagnosis and treatment. In this context, I traveled to Taiwan and visited two hospitals to compare the public and private healthcare services. The Taipei Hospital, under Taiwan's Ministry of Health, has been operating since 1972. Among the noteworthy services, they prepare traditional medicine in their own pharmacy. They also use intelligent robots in rehabilitation therapy. These robots assess the level of a patient's injury and facilitate exercises tailored to that level in an engaging manner. This hospital also has an International Health Training Center, which collaborates with hospitals in Mongolia. Many doctors from Mongolia participate in their study and exchange programs. Chang Gung Private Hospital was established in 1978. It is the largest private hospital in Taiwan, with seven branches across the country. One of the highlights of this hospital's operations is its proton therapy department. The proton therapy department is housed in a separate building and is praised for being environmentally friendly. It is Taiwan's first and Southeast Asia's largest proton therapy center. With four proton therapy rooms, it accommodates over 70 patients on average per day. Proton therapy is increasingly used for effective cancer treatment. It has the advantage of minimizing the risk of damaging nearby healthy tissues, which is why even developed countries have begun to adopt this treatment. You can view the materials required for applying for a Taiwanese visa by clicking HERE. Expect a detailed video of the trip.

E. Bilguun: It was not an easy decision to leave basketball and start kendo

Published: 2025-02-01 | Translated from: unuudur.mn

In an era of rapid technological development, many are drawn to kendo, a martial art that stabilizes the mind and develops the body. Countries in Asia and Europe have set up kendo clubs to train athletes. Kendo is unique for its use of swords, unlike karate or aikido. Historically, although the sword was the main weapon of the samurai, it was risky for regular practice, leading to the use of bamboo swords since the 18th century. Though it originated as a method for defeating enemies with a sword, it evolved into a martial art over time. The principles and ethics esteemed by samurai are still preserved. Victory does not depend on physical strength but on agility, psychological control, and concentration. The essence of kendo revolves around friendship and unity, not just victory. During the National Championship at the "Buyant-Ukhaa" sports complex, both athletes and spectators were energized by the thrilling competitions. E. Bilguun, a member of Mongolia's national kendo team and assistant instructor at the "Shinki" club, won the men's individual category at this year's national championship. We invited him as a guest for an interview. - Every year's National Championship is unique, and it seems like the commentary during the kendo matches has captured the audience's interest. - I've been practicing kendo for nine years now, and currently work as the assistant instructor at my club. The Mongolian Kendo Association has fielded athletes at the national championships for the third consecutive year. Commentary helps to catch people's attention and explain what makes kendo unique among martial arts. More people are showing interest and enrolling their children in kendo lessons, as seen from the increasing participation each year. Four judges from South Korea participated in the event. One of them regularly officiates World Championships, so the standards were high. - You defeated the top competitors to become the national champion. Was it challenging to surpass athletes who have trained longer than you? - I have trained with and faced previous national champions in tournaments, so I am familiar with their styles and strategies. There are athletes with more experience than me in kendo. High-ranking and skilled coaches from Japan come to teach us. Thanks to what I learned from them, I was able to overcome the champions and win. Every athlete has their time to shine, and this competition showed that my time had come. - Achieving a long-term personal goal feels like a success in itself. - Before the tournament, I felt that this was an opportunity not to be missed. I put a lot of effort into realizing what I had been planning for years. Having been involved in sports since I was young, I am familiar with the dynamics of competitions. Recently, I've learned to control my nerves and maintain calmness, focusing on demonstrating what I've learned in kendo and showcasing my skills. - The unwritten law in sports is to compete fairly and win, even against friends. Facing strong opponents is a way to improve oneself. - Among my competitors, A. Nyamjav was a tough opponent. We are in the same club. He is energetic and determined, qualities that are important in kendo. Besides, I expected to face Coach D. Chinbilegt from the "Chikara kendo" club in the medal rounds. Our toughest match was almost a loss for me. Although we are good friends outside, in the competition, we were true rivals. On the competition day, we wished each other success and strategized our matches. Against my friend, I focused on countering his attacking techniques and gave everything I had to execute my plan. - The story of how you started kendo is intriguing, especially since you played basketball for many years before turning to martial arts. - Japanese kendo practitioners master their techniques perfectly, similar to how Mongolian wrestlers excel in traditional wrestling tactics. Kendo practitioners follow rules, have strong morals, and adhere to principles. I used to play for my school's basketball team. Although I never watched samurai movies, I came to kendo practice with a friend. Initially, I found it dull, but gradually I became interested. Training helped alleviate stress and uplifted my spirit. Many were surprised when I left the basketball I played for eight years to take up martial arts. They often asked "why". There was a reason for my switch. Team sports require a collective aim and harmonious atmosphere. Sometimes misunderstandings arise during training or competitions. This shifted my interest to individual sports. Sword fighting is in men's blood, traced back to the era of Mongolian military conquests. Leaving my favorite sport was a personal decision. - Leaving basketball wasn't easy. - Deciding to quit basketball was emotionally difficult. I lost my starting position and didn't enjoy being benched. The team's atmosphere no longer felt right to me. Transitioning to martial arts seemed the right choice for my athletic career. - Many aspire to join the national team, but few succeed. Share your experience in Milan, where you competed on the world stage. - I joined Mongolia's national kendo team to compete in the World Championships for the first time. Over 70 countries' best athletes participated. Kendo retains the samurai lifestyle and philosophy, and Asian competitors often surpass Europeans in intelligence and intuition. I noticed the difference in skill, technique, not height or strength, among athletes. Japan, South Korea, and the USA claimed most of the medals. Team Mongolia trained in South Korea before the World Championships. The South Korean national team, ranked second globally, warmly received us. I met famous Japanese kendo practitioner Kenshiro Matsuzaki and took a photo with him. He is an athlete I deeply admire. - Did your family show interest in kendo when you first started? - My sister was interested. When competing, I don't tell my family because I become self-conscious if they watch. I later found out my sister secretly attended and shared my progress with relatives. My busy schedule with work, training, and competitions leaves little time for family visits. They watched the recent National Championship live. My sister loves sports; she played volleyball. She often says, "I want to try kendo. Let me join your club." I struggled to picture her training in martial arts. When I won, my family was not surprised because they knew my dedication and believed in my goals. Winning the gold doesn't mean I'm satisfied. I aim to defend my title and win again. Kendo practitioners develop a keen intuition to interpret their opponents' mentality from their behavior and stance. Training combines physical exercises with psychological understanding. Even after winning, I sometimes feel "not quite there". - I've heard you returned to kendo after some time away. Did training in other martial arts provide a fresh perspective? - Although I practiced kendo for years, my achievements were limited. To improve, I trained for a year and a half at the "Garuda" academy, combining jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai boxing. Breaking my routine and experiencing a new approach was beneficial. I learned physical and strength endurance. Martial artists have a similar sense of space awareness. In Muay Thai, a single mistake can lead to injury, necessitating precise responsibility. Kendo emphasizes honesty and fairness. Friends commented that "You've improved." In subsequent kendo tournaments, I noticed my increased strength and speed. - How has Bilguun of today transformed compared to ten years ago? - In the past, I lacked confidence and felt hesitant, doubting even my known abilities. Kendo changed that. It greatly influenced my professional career. Friends and family observed my determination and decisiveness. Friends would say, "You used to be sensitive, but now you express yourself briefly and to the point." I studied at Must University and graduated in 2018. Despite my busy training and competing schedule, one day I unexpectedly found myself receiving my diploma. - Are you currently working in your field? - Yes, I am a graphic designer. My superiors trust me with significant responsibilities. Our company has several branch stores and collaborates with many partners. I was involved in redesigning the signage, logo, and design for the stores, experiencing management-level work for the first time. It was a promising opportunity. - The "Shinki" club achieved the top three places in this year's National Championship. - Shortly after the 2023 National Championship, two friends and I established the "Shinki" club. We train children interested in kendo, maintaining stringent practices initially. When they struggle, we adjust methods to suit their personalities. We train over 20 children. Parents often remark, "My child's concentration and school performance have improved, and they're learning independence, attempting to solve problems on their own." - What competitions are you preparing to travel for in 2025? - I'm preparing to compete in an open international kendo tournament in Hong Kong in March. We achieved better results at the recent World Championships, winning against athletes from Spain, Germany, and New Zealand. I recently discussed this with my team members.

The Mongolian Writers Union announced the selection of 10 stories to compete in the final stage of this year's "Utgiin Chimeg" contest. This festival is organized in honor of the 90th anniversary of the birth of Labor Hero, State Prize winner, People's Writer, Honored Cultural Figure, scientist, and writer L. Tuduv. The stories were selected on the basis that they are entirely new, unpublished works. The following stories will compete in the final stage: B. Bayarsaikhan's "Poor Ajyaa of Mine," Ts. Ganbold's "Echo of the Spirit," G. Bolormaa's "Gray Wild Onion," G. Khashbaatar's "He Wrote It Wrong Again." Also included are B. Sarantuyaa's "Regdendagva," R. Zumperlkham's "The King of Sheep," T. Bum-Erdene's "The Interpreter of Stones," N. Batbold's "Classroom Chill," Kh. Erdev's "Oath," and M. Erdenebat's "The Seventh Chamber." There is a tradition where the stories that make it to the top 10 are brought to life on stage by professional actors and performers. This festival is scheduled to be held on February 9th, the birthday of the late L. Tuduv.
