Proposal to Elect the Mayor of the Capital City by Public Vote
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: isee.mn
Citizen Serjmyadag Tuvshinbileg has initiated a petition to allow the citizens of the capital to elect the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar through a public vote, and has submitted it to the D.Urgudul system. Signatures are being collected for this petition from April 25 to May 25. As of today, 1,036 citizens have signed in support. If 100,000 citizens support it, the State Great Khural (Parliament) will assign it to the relevant standing committee for consideration, opening the possibility for legal amendments. The petition states: "It is necessary to pass a new law through Parliament to amend Articles 58 and 62 of the Constitution of Mongolia, the Election Law, and the Law on the Legal Status of the Capital City, in order to allow the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar to be chosen directly by the citizens. Electing the city's mayor through elections will increase democracy and citizen participation, improve transparency and accountability, stabilize urban policy development, and ensure independence from central authorities. Thus, we, the citizens of the city, need to gain the right to elect this important position that directly affects our lives by our own choice."

On the Occasion of Intellectual Property Protection Day, the Speaker of Mongolia Sends Greetings
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: montsame.mn
Every year on April 26, the world celebrates "World Intellectual Property Day." On this occasion, the Speaker of the State Great Khural, D. Amarbayasgalan, has sent greetings. In his message, he stated: "I would like to extend my greetings to Mongolia's outstanding engineers, scholars, researchers, innovators, inventors, writers, artists, and sector professionals on Intellectual Property Protection Day. The foundations of the system for registration and protection of intellectual property were laid in Mongolia in 1944, and after becoming a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Mongolia joined 16 international treaties and conventions. Today, the provision of the Constitution of Mongolia that states 'The rights of authors, new inventions, and discoveries shall be protected by law' is being implemented, ensuring the legal environment for intellectual property protection, and patents continue to be granted and protected. In an era where digitalization, artificial intelligence, innovation, technology, and arts and culture are rapidly developing, it is a top priority for the intellectual property sector to meet the demands of the times, to continuously research and update its strengths and weaknesses, and to improve the legal framework. The State Great Khural always supports any proposals and initiatives to advance legal and regulatory frameworks in this area," the message stated.

N.Otgonsaikhan: Mongolia Imports 375 Tax-Exempt Products from the Eurasian Economic Union but Cannot Export Its Own Meat
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: isee.mn
The issue of whether Mongolia should establish a temporary agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union was one of last week's hot topics. Researchers at the Business School of the National University of Mongolia conducted a study on whether such an agreement would be beneficial for Mongolia. We spoke with Professor N. Otgonsaikhan from the Business School about this issue. VIDEO: -You have studied the challenges we might face if we sign a temporary agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. Could you share the main findings?
Our team conducted this study in March, commissioned by the Mongolian Food Producers Association. The Eurasian Economic Union started in 2014 and currently has five member states: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. In the 11 years since its inception, the union has signed free trade agreements with only two to three countries, such as Singapore and Iran. Notably, they initially signed a temporary agreement with Iran similar to the one proposed with Mongolia, which was made permanent in 2024. So, in reality, only three or four countries have signed free trade agreements with the union in 11 years. Currently, negotiations are underway with five or six countries, including Mongolia. -What are the economic characteristics of the Eurasian Economic Union?
The five countries in the union have formed a customs union, which means they have removed customs tariffs among themselves, unified their trade and tariff policies, and apply a single tariff when trading with other countries. Mongolia initially signed a partnership-based free trade agreement with Japan, which was bilateral. However, the Eurasian Economic Union consists of five countries with a unified customs union, so signing a free trade agreement with them is distinctive. -What economic benefits would such an agreement bring to Mongolia?
It is proposed that the agreement would reduce customs tariffs to zero on 375 products from each side. Mongolia would reduce tariffs on 375 products for export to the five member countries, and the Eurasian Union would remove tariffs on 375 products imported to Mongolia. However, it is crucial to analyze the effect of imports from the five countries.
As of the end of 2024, Mongolia exported about 110 million USD worth of goods to the Eurasian Union countries, while importing about 2.9 billion USD from them. This shows a huge trade imbalance, with a deficit of almost 2.8 billion USD. -MONGOLIA HAS 38 PRODUCTS THAT COULD BE EXPORTED TO THE FIVE EURASIAN UNION COUNTRIES-
-Some say it is correct for Mongolia to balance the policies of its two neighbors and open its northern market?
Expanding and opening markets is good but first, we had to analyze whether Mongolia has 375 products to export. At present, Mongolia can potentially export 58 out of the 375 products to the world market. Specifically, we found that only 38 product types could be exported to the Eurasian Economic Union.
Exports of these 38 products could potentially increase. On the import side, Mongolia could import up to 276 of the 375 products.
So, the situation indicates a limited variety of export products and a broad variety of imports, possibly worsening the existing trade imbalance. -How much could exports and imports increase with this agreement?
Exports could grow by about 3.8%, and imports by around 4.7%. While they may seem to increase at a similar rate, the base amount of exports is tiny, meaning the agreement will not positively affect the trade balance. -What are the main products Mongolia could export?
The most promising products are textiles and knitwear, as well as meat and meat products. There are also mining products—fluorspar and copper concentrate—which Mongolia exports to Russia. -AMONG THE THREE MAIN EXPORT PRODUCTS, ONLY THREE HAVE THE HIGHEST CUSTOMS DUTY OF 15%, 20%, AND 25%-
-Minister N. Gantumur stated in parliament that this agreement would allow Mongolia to export its meat without any issues?
In particular, exports of horse meat are seen to increase. The customs tariff on horse meat in the Eurasian Union is 15%. There is some misconception about the tariff rates being very high, but tariffs should be considered separately from VAT and fees. The agreement only discusses customs tariffs. For instance, VAT in Russia, Armenia, and Belarus is 20%, while it is 12% in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. For these 375 products, only the customs tariff would be removed; VAT remains unchanged. There are also customs fees.
A study of the top ten potential export products found that only three products had customs duties of 15%, 20%, and 25%; the rest were either zero or 5%. Thus, customs duties are not that high. If the 15% duty on horse meat is removed, exports will increase. Quotas for horse meat are being discussed in the agreement. However, we must pay attention to non-tariff requirements (health and safety standards), which are not covered in the agreement. There are 38 non-tariff requirements for horse meat, 33 of which are related to health and hygiene. To increase horse meat exports, the government and producers must focus on meeting health requirements. -ISSUES IN MEETING ORIGIN REQUIREMENTS FOR TEXTILE AND KNITWEAR PRODUCTS-
-What risks and opportunities exist for textile and knitwear products?
Export opportunities exist for products such as socks made of camel wool, yak down, and sheep's wool to Siberian regions. Our study shows these could grow by 200,000-300,000 USD each. However, there are currently issues such as the export of counterfeit socks (labeled as camel or yak wool) which do not meet origin requirements. This is particularly important for textiles and knitwear, which require a certain percentage of value addition in Mongolia. Whether Mongolia meets these requirements depends on the policy of the government and national producers.

Governor of the Bank of Mongolia B. Lkhagvasuren Issues Order Restricting Pension Loans for Seniors
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: isee.mn
Governor of the Bank of Mongolia B. Lkhagvasuren has issued an order restricting seniors from obtaining pension loans. Specifically, he issued an order "On Setting Restrictions on Loans Secured by Pension and Welfare Income." According to this order, in order to protect the living standards of citizens with pension or welfare income, a restriction is enforced so that for new or modified loans secured by pension or welfare income, after the borrower pays their monthly loan payment, their remaining income must not be less than the minimum living standard. For loans secured by pension or welfare income that were granted before March 10, 2025, banks' executive directors are permitted to make a one-time extension of the loan term, if necessary, by amending the loan agreement, under the condition that, after paying the monthly loan payment, the borrower’s remaining income is not below the minimum living standard, but without increasing the loan balance. The Monetary Policy Department, the Banking Restructuring and Policy Department (N. Ariunbat), and the Supervision Department (Ts. Narandalai) have each been tasked with overseeing the implementation of this order. A pension is money deducted monthly from a citizen’s salary to be saved and paid out in the future. Some legal professionals have begun criticizing the new restrictions imposed by the Bank of Mongolia on obtaining loans, arguing that such actions are violations of the law.

Arvaikheer Ovorkhangai province and Allier, France, have celebrated 25 years of friendly relations and cooperation. The anniversary was marked with events in Arvaikheer city, including a celebration meeting and an honorary concert. During the festivities, a historical photo exhibition was displayed, with performances and a culinary tasting featuring collaboration with the French side. According to R. Dulamsuren, president of the Ovorkhangai-Allier Society, "Our province began Franco-Mongolian cooperation in 1994. Partnering with Santé Sud, a French organization, their investment made possible the construction of blocks A, B, and V of the province’s central hospital, which opened on December 12, 1997. They also gifted a UAZ-469 vehicle." Veronique Europe, an official from Allier's international relations, stated, "Although we have not built visible buildings during these 25 years, we have sent numerous doctors, teachers, artists, and service sector workers on exchange programs between our countries and implemented many projects focused on individual development." In 1999, "Three D’s"—doctor Daniel Devin from Allier, his translator and director of "DMD Mongolia LLC" Z. Demidbal, and R. Dulamsuren, former director of the province's central hospital and a decorated health sector worker—founded the "Ovorkhangai – Allier Society" (APAU), which remains active today. Over this period, more than 200 people from France have visited Ovorkhangai for capacities building in healthcare, agriculture, and school exchanges, while about 120 people from Ovorkhangai have worked in Allier. Four cooperation agreements have been signed to date, and this year the fifth agreement is under discussion, focusing on culture, tourism, youth development, and climate change. Governor O. Purevdorj stressed that this new agreement will be broader, more visionary, and bring advantages to both countries’ cooperation. During the celebration, local honors were awarded to key figures in the partnership, and winners of essay and drawing competitions organized for the anniversary were awarded. Talented students from the First General Education School, led by teacher B. Otgondulam, performed at the event, and artists from the Provincial Music and Drama Theater together with artists from Vichy, France brought the play “Nomad Existence” to the stage.

The "National Institute for Regional Development" has announced a tender to select a contractor to develop a feasibility study for upgrading the airport in Mörön soum, Khuvsugul aimag, to international 4C standards. As part of the regional development policy, the government plans to spend over 600 billion tugriks by 2030 to expand and upgrade seven local airports to international standards, one of which is Mörön Airport. The above-mentioned institute had previously announced a tender at the end of last year to select a contractor for the feasibility study and design project for this airport, but no businesses participated or submitted proposals that met the requirements. Therefore, the tender has been re-announced. The project to upgrade Mörön Airport to international 4C standards is planned to cost a total of 24 billion tugriks. Meanwhile, 600 million tugriks will be allocated for the feasibility study and design work. Additionally, the airport administration highlighted that they are in talks with private businesses to establish regular charter flights from South Korea to Khuvsugul and prepare to receive tourists.

The design and estimate for the major renovation of School No. 5 in Zuunmod was completed in 2022, and the renovation work began on July 16, 2024. As of today, the major renovation of the school and the construction of an extension building with a capacity of 320 students are ongoing. The school building was originally intended for use as an office building for a construction organization and operated as a school for 30 years, but now has problems continuing normal activities. Specifically, more than 60 teachers and staff, and 950 students of School No. 5 are holding classes this academic year in the new general education school with specialized sports training in Zuunmod sum, which has 640 student seats. In that sports-specialized general education school, more than 660 children study, with 29 teachers and 27 staff members. The school has a 640-student capacity and commenced operation in August 2024. School No. 5 occupies one wing of this school to continue its educational activities. Because two schools are operating in one building, the new sports-specialized school cannot operate at full capacity and its activities have not stabilized, according to school administrators. The possibility has arisen that the major renovation and extension construction of School No. 5 will be completed and handed over only in 2026, due to budget allocation. The contractor company stated that, if the budget is resolved, the extension can be commissioned in 2025.

Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: ikon.mn
In connection with the upcoming by-election of the Mongolian Football Federation (MFF), the departments responsible for organizing competitions have announced a strike. They also announced a press conference to be held today at 13:00 in the MFF conference hall, but due to some misunderstandings, representatives of the federation did not attend. Some were not even aware of the press conference. However, sports journalist B. Batzaya and a group of individuals provided explanations to the journalists who had gathered. They stated, "Based on a statement by the Players' Association opposing the candidacy of Ts. Anandbazar in the by-election, the league's 'Ochirt' council has postponed the 17th round match for an indefinite period. Consequently, various structures within the federation have joined in the protest, and five departments have collectively decided to go on strike. As of today, MFF leaders have not made any statement. The main goal of these individuals is to prevent Ts. Anandbazar from entering the Mongolian football world. They also object to his candidacy, which they claim is against the rules. It has become clear that even two people from the same family are included in the MFF Election Committee. There is regret regarding such decisions by the committee. They also expressed opposition to holding a by-election simply to make Ts. Anandbazar president. Out of the 52 member organizations eligible to vote in the election, 35 joined together and submitted a request last month, on March 27, to hold an extraordinary General Assembly themselves. The federation's Executive Board was supposed to respond and announce the meeting within 30 days. The rules clearly state that if the meeting is not announced within this period, members themselves can set the date. This period expired yesterday. The root cause of all this disorder lies in the unclear federation rules. It is believed that a small group formulated the current rules to benefit themselves, so it is important to revise them to comply with FIFA regulations. There is also a wish to replace members of the election and oversight committees, who currently serve the interests of a small group. Only after this will the election be fair and competitive. Secondly, the members of the MFF Council have become ineffective. Specifically, if 50% of the 15 council members cannot fulfill their duties, then all members should be re-elected. Former president M. Bold resigned voluntarily. M. Ganbaatar was appointed acting general secretary and thus had his rights suspended. A. Ganbaatar, D. Nanjid, and G. Enkhjin lost their council membership rights in 2024 after missing three sessions. Also, five individuals have submitted resignations for ethical reasons. In other words, out of the 15 members, 10 have become unable to serve. Today, representatives of the Asian Football Confederation and FIFA are arriving in Mongolia, with some arriving tomorrow. We plan to present all this information to them. Tomorrow, a peaceful protest will be held in front of the MFF building. Everyone is invited to participate." REPORT: The "Little Venice" Department Store, a Sixfold Miniature of Venice, Opens in the Center of Ulaanbaatar
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: isee.mn
The "Little Venice" department store, crafted to encapsulate the architecture and aesthetics of Venice, Italy and designed as a sixfold smaller replica of the city, has officially opened at the very center of Ulaanbaatar. The department store is named “Little Venice” because it aims to bring the atmosphere of Venice to the heart of Ulaanbaatar and has incorporated the unique architectural styles and sculptural elements of the Italian city into its intricate design. Spanning 13,000 square meters, the center has over 120 showrooms, including 5,000 square meters dedicated to public spaces, restrooms, children’s rooms, and relaxation areas, thus enabling citizens and shoppers to shop comfortably without fatigue. The store itself is a sixfold miniature replica of Venice, designed to make visitors feel as if they are actually in the Italian city. We spoke with Ts. Budkhüü, the head of the "Misheel City" project, who stated, “The greatest advantage of the ‘Little Venice’ department store is its location among many sub-centers. What used to be Misheel Expo will now serve over 140,000 people, featuring Ulaanbaatar’s largest furniture and construction store, centralized state services, food street, park, office, health and education towers, the soon-to-open Misheel car dealership, entertainment street, and an international hotel. This area has a unique advantage for residents of Khan-Uul district, who will be able to access a wide range of services here without needing to go to the city center.” Regarding the construction, the department store was designed with a 6.5-meter high ceiling in line with international standards and is planned entirely on the first floor based on consumer behavior studies. According to international research, around 95% of consumers utilize only the first floor of department stores. For investors and entrepreneurs, sharing a single roof with other stores reduces marketing costs and helps maintain a steady stream of customers’ income. On the opening day, we interviewed some of the first customers at “Little Venice”, who remarked, “What I like the most is the interior design. It truly feels like walking in Italy, and the atmosphere is exceptionally clean and cozy. The feeling is completely different from other department stores in Mongolia. Many major brands have been gathered under one roof. This kind of development was really missing in the Khan-Uul and Misheel Expo area. I think I’ll become a regular customer from now on.”

Within this framework, the 'Partnership Forest Grove,' covering 12.9 hectares, has been established with plans to plant and grow over 10,000 trees of 21 different species. Since the project began in 2006 in Mongolia, about 4,000 hectares have been afforested and reforestation work is ongoing in provinces and regions, according to the State Great Khural’s Press Office.
KHOVD: The Best Time for Spring Tree Planting Has Started
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: montsame.mn
Planting trees has positive effects on human health and the environment. Thus, the Department of Environment of Khovd Province has issued advice for residents who wish to plant trees but are unsure how to do so, and reminded everyone that the tree-planting season has begun. The most suitable time for planting trees is from the middle of April to the end of May in spring, after the ground has thawed and before the trees finish leafing, and in autumn, before the end of November. Trees planted during this period grow well and quickly settle in. In spring, it is best to plant trees between April 20 and May 20. If you miss this window, you can plant potted saplings or those with a covered root system. Difference between seedlings and saplings: "Tarits" refers to 1-2 year old woody plants grown from seeds or cuttings in nurseries. "Suulgats" are seedlings that have been transplanted from a nursery into a growing plot and cultivated there for more than three years. Preparing a hole for tree planting: The size of the hole depends on the size of the plant. For a sapling about two meters high, it is necessary to dig a hole with a diameter of 50x70 cm. It is very beneficial to fill the hole with water and let it sit overnight before planting. Soil is the most important factor: The most important thing for planting and growing trees is the soil. The soil mixture should be prepared with 50% black earth, 30% sand, and 20% fertilizer. Do not damage the roots: Place the sapling's roots evenly in the center of the hole, avoiding bending or damaging them. Fill soil slowly up to the root collar, packing it well to protect the roots. Leave about 20 cm from the rim of the hole. After planting, water until the hole is full. Once the water has soaked in, fill the hole again with water. Regarding irrigation: In spring, water the newly planted trees every five days, in summer every 2-3 days, making sure to fully fill the planting basin. In autumn, give a deep, thorough watering right before the soil freezes so the tree overwinters well. Through proper planting and post-planting care, your efforts will be beneficial in many ways. "Planting trees is important, but taking care of and nurturing the trees you have planted is even more important. As warm weather approaches, let us all — families, friends, organizations, and collectives — come together to plant trees, spend our time productively, and improve our environment," environmental officials urged. One hectare of forest can purify 18 million cubic meters of air, releasing oxygen and absorbing 30-35% of smoke and dust. Deciduous trees, in particular, can reduce noise by 25% and decrease dust by 21-76%. Moreover, they are beneficial for people's mental well-being and health. Last year, in conjunction with the "Billion Trees" national movement and the "All Citizens Tree Planting Day," Khovd Province planted 175,000 trees. This year, they plan to plant 100,000 trees. There are also ongoing efforts to increase green areas in soums and reduce waste. Studies indicate that more than 90% of Khovd Province's territory is affected by desertification and land degradation to some degree. Therefore, within the framework of the President’s "Billion Trees" movement, the province aims to plant 20 million trees. Since the start of this national movement, people in Khovd have planted 360,000 trees, with about a 70% survival rate. The lower rate in some sums is attributed to inadequate irrigation systems, maintenance, and protection.
The camel calf born without front legs was not poisoned by uranium, but was born with a congenital defect, says MEEG director B.Boldbaatar

However, B.Boldbaatar, head of the Animal Health Department of the General Agency for Veterinary Medicine, gave a statement to the press clarifying that the deformity was due to a congenital defect, not uranium. He stated, "A congenital defect occurs in one out of every 100,000 animals. Head Coach of National Weightlifting Team Ts.Khosbayar Caught Selling Suspected Doping Substances
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: isee.mn
In recent years, there have been numerous cases of athletes from the national team and wrestlers in Mongolia being found with doping substances. Most recently, the National Anti-Doping Organization of Mongolia reported that 13 wrestlers tested positive for doping substances. Additionally, B. Battugs, a national team athlete who was supposed to compete in the -90 kg weight class at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, as well as International Master of Sports B. Chinzorig, who won a gold medal at the "Hangzhou 2022" Asian Games, and several other athletes have tested positive for doping, and have been held accountable accordingly. However, until today, details regarding how and why these athletes used doping substances, what kind of substances were used, and under whose instructions or recommendations remained unclear and undisclosed. It has now been reported that Ts. Khosbayar, the head coach of the national weightlifting team, was caught selling suspected doping substances and products. Specifically, he was apprehended by officers from the Criminal Police Department of the General Police Department while selling these suspected substances together with several other individuals. The criminal investigation into the case is currently ongoing. It should be noted that the negative effects of doping substances can disrupt the functioning of organ systems in the human body, increasing the risk of internal organ dysfunction. They also carry a higher risk of heart attacks and cancer. Most seriously, they can cause abnormal sperm production in men, alter genetic inheritance, and lead to infertility. For these reasons, the World Anti-Doping Agency and relevant authorities recommend not to use such substances, and there exist regulations to hold users accountable. Therefore, we have prepared this information to remind readers not to use or sell such doping drugs and substances, and to warn about the potential risks to people's health and lives.
Australians Support MongolZ, the Team That Knocked Them Out of the Minor Instead of NAF

The playoffs of "IEM Melbourne," one of the biggest "CS2" tournaments of the year, kicked off yesterday. In this stage, "The MongolZ" faced off against "Liquid." With only one victory in front of an audience on the big stage, all eyes were on how "The MongolZ" would perform this time. The first match between the two teams was played on "Anubis," where "Liquid" clearly dominated and won with a score of 13-5. They had also shown their strength by defeating Ukraine's famous "NAVI" in the group stage. Before this match, "NertZ," a player from "Liquid," gave an interview expressing that their team was finally finding its rhythm and starting to play well. In the second match, played on the "Ancient" map, "The MongolZ" struck back and won 13-6. In this game, "Senzu," who is often criticized for playing poorly in arenas, led all players in individual stats. Consequently, the deciding third map was played on "Inferno," where after a competitive match, "The MongolZ" came out on top. In the crucial game, "910" played outstandingly, with the entire arena chanting his name. Today at 18:00, "The MongolZ" will compete in the semifinals against the French team "Vitality," which has been unstoppable lately, winning every tournament they enter. After the match, British analyst, journalist, and renowned "esports historian" Duncan Shields, also known as "Thorin," commented during the game: "NAF has won tier-1 trophies with an Australian team. But now they are supporting The MongolZ. Don’t forget, The MongolZ knocked the Australian team out of the Major qualifier (Minor). You idiots, go drink your beer out of your shoes again." Canadian player Keith Markovic, also known as "NAF," who plays for "Team Liquid," was previously part of Australia’s famous "Renegades" team for half a year, during which he qualified for the Major and won major international tournaments.

The semi-final matches of the "IEM Melbourne" tournament started today. The first match took place between Saudi Arabia's "Falcons" and Germany's "MOUZ." The "Falcons" team, which added "m0NESY" to their roster, beat their opponents 2-0 and advanced to the grand final. Soon, at 18:00, the match between Mongolia's "The MongolZ" and France's "Vitality" will start. After successfully recruiting "ropz" from "FaZe" earlier in the year, "Vitality"'s current winning streak has reached 19. In general, they have been defeating all top teams in succession and winning every tournament they participate in. If they win this tournament, they are set to receive a one million dollar prize for winning all four major "ESL" tournaments in a calendar year. "ESL" has also announced a 100,000 dollar bonus for any team that eliminates "Vitality" from a tournament before the grand final, as well as a reluctance to part with the one million dollar prize.

SELENGE: Ch. Batdorj: Nature Photography is Unique and Irrepeatable from Each Angle
Published: 2025-04-26 | Translated from: montsame.mn
On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment and development of photography organizations in Mongolia, a nationwide event called “Mongolian Photo Week-2025” is being organized. As part of this event, an exhibition of nature photography titled “Uul Us Minu” (My Mountains and Waters) by Ch. Batdorj, head photographer of the Selenge province branch and a member of the board of the Mongolian Photographers’ Association, has been opened. Photographer Ch. Batdorj became interested in photography as a student in secondary school. Since the 1990s, he has been especially passionate about professional photography, focusing on nature, traditional Mongolian life, and portrait photography. He has traveled and photographed many places across Mongolia in this pursuit. He says that he especially enjoys capturing the beauty of the nature-rich Selenge region. Reflecting this, his exhibition displays photos capturing the pristine, untouched landscapes of Selenge. He has taken an innumerable number of photographs; on any given trip, he brings back many images. Since 2000, he has been archiving his photos digitally. Ch. Batdorj shared why he is particularly passionate about nature photography: "What is special and amazing about nature photography is that when you shoot it from a certain angle, it cannot be repeated. The colors, the light and shadows, the position of the sun, the shapes of the clouds — all of it is unique at the moment the photo is taken. Every time I go to a location, nature presents a different angle, a different face. On one morning it might be foggy, on another the sun will shine. Even the sun itself can show a unique color. That’s why I love photographing nature. I also enjoy sharing my photos online. Through my photography, I feel the beauty of nature. I wish for this pristine landscape and traditional Mongolian lifestyle to remain just as it is. By photographing it, I am preserving a piece of history. Sometimes, when I return to a location I photographed, I find it has changed — maybe it has become a mining site, or a fence has been built. Many changes happen. Because of this, I take photos to preserve a true and authentic history. Looking at a beautiful photo that I’ve taken gives me great satisfaction. I also like to reflect and observe, thinking whether I captured the right angle. In this exhibition, I am presenting thirty of my best photos. These include images taken not only in Selenge province but from every corner of Mongolia." The event is organized by the Selenge province’s Department of Culture, Art, Tourism and Youth, the province’s Photographers’ Association, and the ADB-supported “Selenge Waves" ensemble.
